The Eureka Police believe that a body found yesterday morning at the foot of I Street in Eureka in rocks along the Humboldt Bay and underneath a dock belonging to a fishing business was not the result of a homicide.

According to Britney Powell, spokesperson for the EPD, “We received the report at about 8:30 a.m. Monday from someone boating on the water.  They saw what appeared to be a deceased person under the docks.”

Powell said, “Eureka Police and Humboldt Bay Fire responded and confirmed the person (a male) was deceased.”

After officers investigated the scene, they determined that there “was no evidence of foul play,” Powell told us.

The body is now with the Humboldt County Coroner.

Just another OD. Nothing to see. Jog or stroll along. Costs of doing business with Sister Morphine.

Most od’s aren’t in waders and full fishing gear right next to the fishing boat docks, may want to rethink this one…

Where did you hear the “waders and full fishing gear” bit. It’s neither in this article nor the previous one.

Not hypothermia or some other reason?
Presumption without data your thing?
Or just attention whoring?

The coroner is the most important job in Humboldt county. No evidence does not mean a crime was not committed.

You are 100% correct my friend. I just don’t understand how a Coroner can deal with death all the time and not let it get them down.

I think they often make jokes about it. I don’t think it’s morbid, it’s how some people deal with horrible sights, smells and thoughts. Many first responders do the same. Unfortunately, when Joe public hears these comments, it gets blown up to be “insensitive ” or rude and demeaning. Let these important people who clean up certain “scenes” to vent by joking, if that is what helps them sleep at night
