840 New Cases, 3 New Hospitalizations Since Friday

The largest number of positive COVID tests reported in Humboldt County for any three day period yet…

Press release from Humboldt County Public Health:

Humboldt County Public Health reported today three new hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since Friday, three residents in their 70s. An additional 840 new cases were also reported since Friday, bringing to 13,758 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. No new deaths were reported.

Public Health officials continue to stress that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is an effective way to lower the risk of getting and spreading the virus, and vaccines have been proven to help prevent serious illness and death. Local data shows that unvaccinated adults in Humboldt County are 13 times more likely to be hospitalized than those adults who are fully vaccinated.

Individuals who are not vaccinated should take steps to limit exposure, wear a well-fitted mask in indoor public spaces, distance six feet from others when possible and avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces.

To increase testing capacity in response to the recent surge in cases, the federal government is providing four at-home COVID tests per household. These can be ordered online, free of charge, at COVIDTests.gov.

Additionally, as of Jan. 15, federal law requires health insurers to cover up-front costs of at-home COVID-19 tests purchased at pharmacies or retailers, or allows individuals to be reimbursed for up to eight home tests per month. Information is available at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website.

The California Department of Public Health has updated its guidance on isolation and quarantine for workplace settings aimed at allowing certain vaccinated people who have tested positive or been exposed to continue working under specific circumstances.

As always, Humboldt County’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Although walk-ins are allowed at most regular Public Health clinics and many pharmacy vaccination sites, an increase in demand for boosters has caused delays at some locations. As a result, appointments are required for pediatric clinics and for clinics at Public Health’s main office. Appointments are strongly recommended for all other clinics and are the best way to ensure a shot is available during your visit. Appointments can be made at MyTurn.ca.gov.

Vaccines, including boosters, are available at local pharmacies. To check the availability of a specific vaccine, visit the vaccines.gov page, or text your ZIP code to 438829 to locate a nearby pharmacy offering vaccines.

See the schedule below for specific Public Health vaccination and testing clinic dates, times, locations and available services. Questions about clinic services can be directed to the Joint Information Center at 1-707-441-5000.

Brandon claimed he’d put an end to the covid scourge. Brandon said Trump should resign the presidency because 220,000 Americans had died of covid under his watch. Now more than twice as many have died under Brandon’s watch and models forecast up to 300,000 more lost in coming few months. So when should we expect Brandon’s resignation?

Over on the LOCO echo chamber, they’re quaking with fear. The democrats politicized the pandemic during the 2020 election, and now they’re sycophants are scared shitless because the government won’t save them.

Or make them rich…

Or pay for their health care…

Or wipe their asses…

But they’ll keep voting for someone that promises to give them everything.

“I’m going to shutdown the virus!”

“Two hundred twenty thousand Americans dead,” Biden said at the Oct. 22, 2020 presidential debate. “Anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as President of the United States of America.”

About 400,000 Americans died from COVID-19 during Biden’s presidency so far.

Oh Joe, say it ain’t so! How could anyone be so wrong?

UK researchers have found even mild covid can leave the afflicted with cognitive decline – inability to concentrate, memory loss, and fatigue – for as long as nine months. Stay safe Peeps, we don’t want to be rendered dumb because of the Wuhan Flu.

Hello, I have something to say based in reality. I take my nursing education and experience to this comment. 1. I have had Covid 19 in 2019. Then 2020. I am fully vaccinated and have got this new variant twice since Oct 2021. I’m beginning to think my antibodies on this are probably “more effective” than the vaccinations being touted. At least this latest infection in December 2021 was milder, but I don’t thank the vaccinations. Thanks

New poll today, 37% of Americans give Biden an “F” for his first year in office, another 12% a “D”. 68% believe the country is on the “wrong track”. Bidenflation leads their complaints.

Sounds like some of our friends here want half of us locked up with ankle bracelets.

Almost half of Democratic voters—48 percent—think the government should be able to fine or imprison individuals “who publicly question the efficacy of the existing COVID-19 vaccines on social media, television, radio, or in online or digital publications.”

This is not the most astonishing finding of a poll just released by Rasmussen. Let’s go through the relevant points: Nearly the same percentage of Democratic voters—47 percent—think the government should be able to put a tracking system, like an ankle monitor or a locked collar, on people who refuse the vaccine. And 45 percent favor putting the unvaccinated in camps. Camps.

More than half of Democratic voters—55 percent—think people who refuse the vaccine should be fined. Fifty-nine percent favor confining all unvaccinated people to their homes. More than a quarter of Democratic voters—29 percent—think that the government should be able to confiscate the children of unvaccinated parents . . .

Who’s surprised, natural immunity as good as vaccines?

New data released Wednesday showed that both vaccination and prior infection offered strong protection against infection and hospitalization from Covid-19 during the Delta wave — and that case and hospitalization rates were actually lower among people who had recovered from Covid-19 than among those who had been vaccinated.

The data, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and health agencies in California and New York, are sure to inflame arguments from those who insist they don’t need to be vaccinated if they can show they’ve recovered from Covid-19.

Herd immunity (with loss of a few more) in the next few months. That’s the route we should have gone from the beginning – the at risk shelter at home while everyone else rides it out (hopefully). Israel already gave up on their vaccine passports

Also- at this point it’s a cold/mild flu. Its mutated to be less serious, just like every other respiratory virus we’ve ever encountered.

Cases don’t matter, as many more caught it and didn’t bother to test with a reporting agency, so more like 1600 new cases. What’s it matter? The measure of covid severity is hospitalizations and deaths. We’re all going to catch it if we leave the shelter of home so live healthy and good luck!

Same old, same old “study” allegations. “In his concluding remarks, Meyerowitz-Katz called it “a very weak observational study” that gave us “no useful information at this point in the ivermectin literature” because the study paricipants didn’t take the medication as prescribed, by the end few were taking it at all and had one of the highest covid rates in the area during the time of the study. https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2021/12/fact-check-hospitalizations-mortality-were-not-cut-in-half-after-brazilian-city-offered-ivermectin-to-everyone-before-covid-vaccines.html

This “new” study is the same old study with some of the previous ,most egregious and criticized flaws edited out. By the the removal of “study partcipants” was finished it went from over a hundred thousand to under 4,000. As one commenter put it, the study has “multiple red flags.”

This line of “vaccine prevent serious illness and death”

Really doesn’t work any more. And no matter how many times you say it, doesn’t make it true.

Looking at the case rates compared to hospitalizations and deaths its apparent that this is a mild illness, regardless of vaccination status.

Exactly.
Touting the vaccines as effective against something that isn’t even a
realistic problem anymore isn’t a very realistic answer anymore.

Even four shots aren’t appropriately effective enough against Omicron, a preliminary study in Israel says.

The Israeli Ministry of Health is upset about the release of that information, and is lashing out…

https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20220118/fourth-vaccine-shot-less-effective-omicron-israeli-study

It did. And seems a reasonable discussion of the dilemma. Unfortunately, anti vaxxers have been saying the same thing about the vaccine not being effective for two years while the virus was much more virulent. Now up having been lapped by the less virulent omicron, they tend to think of themselves as vindicated. But because deaths tend to lag behind infections, even their 20/200 hindsight may still be wrong.
As this article, ” So the next couple of months are going to be really interesting to see.” And if Public Health makes the wrong call on easing up on the vaccination drive, they will be pilloried as badly for that by the same people who attacked them for everything anyway. Change will happen no matter but kvetching from anti vaxxers, who practically own being wrong and sticking to it, is pathetic.

These children don’t think it’s a mild illness

COVID-19 hospitalizations among California’s children — especially those too young to go to school — are the highest they have been since the pandemic began.

This from a Jan 3 article

Texas Children’s Hospital reports huge COVID-19 hospitalization surgeA third of those hospitalized for COVID are under the age of 5 at Texas Children’s.
Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston announced Monday that at “close to 70” patients, it has surpassed its summer Delta surge for pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations.
This number is a stark increase compared to just two weeks ago, when the hospital was reporting 15 kids hospitalized with COVID-19. That number doubled to 30 last week, and more than doubled again today, the hospital said in a news conference over Zoom.

Statewide, the number of children hospitalized has risen to 279, up from 69 three weeks ago.
A third of those hospitalized for COVID are under the age of 5 at Texas Children’s. Most of the patients are unvaccinated, just due to their age, and 90% of the confirmed cases are omicron variant cases, the hospital said.
The hospital’s positivity rate is “hovering around 30%.”
“We have staggering numbers during this omicron surge already,” said Dr. Jim Versalovic, the pathologist-in-chief & COVID-19 command center co-leader at the hospital. “Omicron is extremely contagious; more contagious than Delta, in the category of measles virus.”
Versalovic also said the hospital diagnosed one child with a case of coinfection of COVID and the flu. Fortunately, RSV and flu cases remain relatively low and they believe they have plenty of beds.

Where does it say that? In fact Texas article says just the opposite.
“Fortunately, RSV and flu cases remain relatively low and they believe they have plenty of beds”” hospital diagnosed one child with a case of coinfection of COVID and the flu”
California article does not mention RSV at all. MIS-C is mentioned but that is rare.

After Afghanistan, and the screw job he gave France on the missile deal, the world knows Biden is an untrustworthy idiot.
Oh, and don’t forget the investigation into the Ukrainian gas co. Hunter was involved with, the one Biden bribed to stop the investigation, and then bragged about it to the CFR on video.

Echo’s of Tonkin ring in my memories.

It won’t be a world war if the US just keeps its nose out of other people’s business. We don’t have a strategic interest in the Ukraine outcome. Give them some shoulder launched missiles and simply walk away.

How Omicron Upended What We Thought We Knew About Natural Immunity. Between Dec. 1 and Jan. 17, at least 18 million Americans contracted COVID. Data suggests that the vast majority of those cases were in unvaccinated people, but plenty of people who got their primary series of the vaccine also caught the immunity-evading omicron variant.

I loved the last paragraph. It should be tattooed on everyone’s hands as a reminder for any future problem. “And what does Moore think? He was just ready to take a pause from speculation and get some data before anyone starts making decisions for themselves or for society. “I’m fed up with winging answers to reporters like yourself, because I don’t know the answer,” he said. “None of us know for sure.””

It reminds me of the many versions of the Taoist parable of the farmer I’ve heard over the years- “There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.

“Maybe,” replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy for what they called his “misfortune.”

“Maybe,” answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

“Maybe,” said the farmer.”

This should not have happened. But I predicted it would happen in my YouTube videos which I desperately tried to share on Facebook in groups, and sent to all the local reporters. The result of my desperate attempt to warn all of you was me being called a crazy conspiracy theorist, me being banned from Facebook groups including Humboldt Moms, Humboldt County on Alert, and others, and me being specifically targeted and harassed by certain Humboldt County politicians on Facebook, and several of my videos removed from YouTube. Turns out COVID-19 was already spreading in the USA when one case was discovered, that it was more dangerous than the flu, that it would mutate and reinfect people, that it was likely made in a lab, that the vaccines would cause side effects and ultimately not work, that the more the virus spread after the lockdown period the more they opened up, shall I go on? I’ve been making videos warning people about COVID-19 since early 2020, and I said all of those things days or months before they were on the news, and was called crazy every single time. Imagine if the local news media and local politicians had promoted my message instead of suppressing it. This would not be happening now.

What exactly would not be happening now ? That more people would have died from earlier variants?

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 2022 Grammy Awards will shift to an April show in Las Vegas after recently postponing the ceremony due to Covid. The awards will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3, dashing Gavin Newsom’s hope to reschedule in California.

Natural immunity from prior infection granted stronger levels of protection against the Delta variant of COVID-19 than vaccination alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a study released Wednesday.
Before Delta became dominant, individuals who had natural immunity were experiencing higher case rates than individuals who were only vaccinated, the study found, but after Delta took hold, those with natural immunity caught COVID-19 less frequently than those who were only vaccinated.

As virus severity wanes, so far as variants, be sure not to develop amnesia, or worse; alluding to some kind of “see, I told you” it wasn’t so bad … when it actually had a long and dangerous enough run. That, that would be a Pyrrhic victory (at best).

There are no victors, just a virus, tools to combat, and losses … then to begin to live with its waning-variant severity.

One definition of a Pyrrhic victory:
A victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the (self-proclaimed) victor that it is tantamount to defeat.

Yes, that is one problem with a society that views everything through the lens of war. In most things in life, there are not victors

Not perfect (what is?) but pretty impressive, actually. President Bye-Don showed in his news conference his grasp of the issues, sound judgement, stamina and coherence. For two or more hours he did rather well, and who wouldn’t show tiredness, in their answers, toward the end of such. I’m sorry but he’s far more knowledgeable than his predecessor, more balanced, and much more thoughtful. This dude cares about the country, not just himself.

I know you’re big on this politics thing, but surely you don’t believe bragging about a person who holds one of the most serious and demanding jobs on planet showing “stamina” because he “did rather well” and “wouldn’t show tiredness” for all of “two or more hours” isn’t the flex you appear to think it is.

It honestly reminds me of Donnie bragging about passing the dementia test.

Makes me hope that literally any of the conspiracy theories are correct and we aren’t actually being led by a man who’s job has been public speaking for 50 years and who’s advocates are bragging that he can answer preselected questions for 2 hours without a major gaffe. We’re screwed…

Soy, Connie, but reasonable folks know Trump has created a dangerous shit-storm in this country that’s only good for precious few. We are facing so many very big issues in this country, in the world, the last thing any reasonable President needs is what Trump and the lie-believers can potentially bring.
