Stacy Eads Announces Run For District Attorney

Stacey Eads District Attorney Candidacy

Stacey Eads running for District Attorney.

Press release from Stacy Eads, Deputy District Attorney for Humboldt County:

I am announcing my candidacy for Humboldt County District Attorney. I have served our community as a prosecutor since returning home to Humboldt after law school in 2001.

If Humboldt County affords me the opportunity to serve as District Attorney I will apply my proven commitment to compassionately achieve justice, vigorously advocate for protection of the rights and well-being of crime victims, and never lose sight of my duty to promote safety for all of Humboldt.

As District Attorney Maggie Fleming stated, “Stacey Eads has had a remarkable 20-year career in the District Attorney’s Office. She has handled every type of case, from misdemeanors, to general felonies, juvenile offenders, and currently the most serious child abuse and sexual assault cases. She has served as a Deputy D.A., Senior Deputy D.A. and is currently the Assistant D.A. Her current assignment combines the ongoing challenge of being a top prosecutor with gaining experience in the many additional challenges involved in running the District Attorney’s Office, including recruitment and retention of high-quality people, dealing with the budget, and building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and agencies. Stacey has my complete support and endorsement because she is an ethical prosecutor with the professionalism and dedication to rise to the challenges of serving as D.A.”

I’m looking for A new district attorney who’s for law and order We have way too many criminals put back on our streets This way too soon it’s about time we start looking at the innocent people We’re tired of all the violence

While I, like most, am tired of the rampant crime in the area and the inability to retain any criminals other than violent offenders for any period of time, you really need to investigate the cause of the problem instead of blaming the DA. Voters approved a ballot initiative intended to address overcrowding in state prisons and this was done by pushing shorter sentences and lower-level offenders onto the county. Our jail is full, so whereas car thieves, burglars, heroin dealers etc., used to go to prison, they instead are now a county problem, and we simply don’t have the room for them in the jail. On top of that, even the murders and other violent criminals are spending years in our county jail before going to trial and eventually sentenced and shipped off to state prison. This is not a problem you can blame on local officials – blame the voters and the state for not figuring out solutions one way or another. Our current DA is all for “law and order” and I can assure you she is far more frustrated by this situation than you are.

Okay but not sure how this applies to the Marci Kitchen situation. I could never vote for anybody involved in the prosecution of that case as Kitchen literally got away with murder, went on a vacation to South America and returned for a very very light sentence. The local DA office must take some responsibility!

And unless Eads takes that case on directly with a reasonable explanation for how Kitchen got off so easy I can’t imagine anybody voting for her- except drunks who drive

It was the judge’s ruling that allowed her to go on vacation

Not to justify it, but the DA came under pressure from the County to take extraordinary measures to avoid a trial after the defense uncovered evidence of malfeasance that contributed to unsafe road conditions. State funds earmarked for improvements to Eel River Drive were not used for their intended purpose.

And how many taxpayer dollars does it take to house criminals? Thousands of dollars. How about we raise your property taxes? How about churches paying taxes? How about raising taxes on Big Box stores? How about taxing parents with children in school? Use that money to house criminals. I don’t think so……………..

You completely miss my point – I’m saying don’t blame the DA for the current situation, which is the result of voters statewide. You made the leap to taxes to house criminals…completely different discussion, on which I made no stand. I’m just tired of people blaming the DA and other local officials for a situation that is not rooted at the local or County level and of which they have minimal options to address.

The DA looks at evidence and makes a decision as to what violations will the person be charged. The person is arrested by the police. Jail is in-between. That is my point. The DA has nothing to do with in-betweeners. That’s left to the Judges. Both are responsible for acting within the laws. The DA is mandated by laws. Her charge is to prove you guilty not innocent. I can see why she is frustrated. It is the police who determine the reasons for arrest.

And where should we house these criminals? There’s no room at the jail! How about your extra bedroom?

We need to all stand together, and remember this has to all be about Gallegos. That whipper-snapper sashayed in and totally upended the golden decade of Terry Farmer. How will we ever again achieve the peaceful sanitary age of Farmer’s Bad Check Restitution Program? I’m moving to Idaho.

I managed the Check Enforcement Program at the DA’s Office during my 15 years there. I assisted our prosecutors with data and reports so they could successfully prosecute many of the worst offenders. Some would pay but most still wouldn’t/couldn’t.
Our DA takes this crime seriously and while there I was able to collect about 40% of the total damage these bad checkwriters had done. I trained and encouraged business owners to participate in our program, post our sign and correctly obtain ID on all checks, say no sometimes to sales. It is hard to prosecute without a suspect’s name and ID. Keep fighting the good fight!

Susan did a spectacular job with that program and was a great asset to the Humboldt County DA’s office. (I was one of the prosecutors that she worked with!) Small business and individuals were the victims of bad checks. they deserved to be protected.

Will she go after the corrupt supervisors who are involved with farms and yet voting on things they should recuse themselves do to conflict of interest

I wonder if some candidate will be carrying the torch for Charmaine Lawson.

Lol. Whatever is said, truth has been forever lost in apd investigating and lack of witness cooperation. No DA work now will ever accurately address lack of lawson case execution or results. Future results should have same results since nothing has really changed with APD, less funds and training than before. Maybe less care, sad

Prosecutors are usually the most corrupt… not fooled by looks & I definitely need a track record before promoting.

7 questions, or more so, open ended discussions I need her to ramble on for me to care who she is so here are topics I want every candidate to ramble on:

*homes for the working class
*small town business
*cannabis laws/drug laws
*sex workers
*Murray Field (and air travel in general)
*houseless folk and homeless folks
*covid

I have never heard of her (probably a good thing) though there will (right? Hopefully cause I like choices) be others vying for the same position. I want to know everything about each of them. I want to know who next is in charge of some very serious matters.

Do you understand the duties of a district attorney? I read your list of questions and spot only a few questions that would have relevance to her candidacy.

Didn’t you all vote Fleming and “the judges” in?
