Just before 4 p.m., the lights went out to 1933 residents of Southern Humboldt County (with a few in northern Mendocino County also), according to PG&E.

As of just before 5 p.m., PG&E’s Outage Map states that the cause is “an emergency issue.”

“We are still looking to restore power,” explained Deanna Contreras, spokesperson for the power company. “We are still looking into [the cause].” She said that the outage stretched from beyond Redway/Garberville to Petrolia. At this point there is no estimated time of restoral, she told us.

UPDATE 5:40 p.m.: PG&E is working on a pole at the north end of Garberville near the 101 onramp. Our reporter, Lisa Music, tells us that a pole is broken and PG&E is on scene working on it now. She says there is still no estimated time of restoration. According to her, the PG&E worker told her that most of Garberville had power, but some areas were affected.

Wave Cable is working nearby the PG&E crew. Lisa Music told us that Wave Cable was working on Redwood Drive. Some customers have told us that they don’t have internet.

Wave cable is on Redwood Drive right at the intersection to go down to the Southern Humboldt Unified School District Dazeys building. I’m assuming that’s what’s going on there. The PG&E guy said that most of Garberville was OK, but Dazey’s Building Center fly was affected as well.

UPDATE 6:42 p.m.: About 200 residents have had power restored but over 1700 are still without electricity.

UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: Supervisor Michelle Bushnell is reporting on her Facebook page that power should be restored around 7:30 p.m.

UPDATE 10:05 p.m.: The power is still out. And PG&E is saying it will be 4 a.m. before it is restored.

UPDATE 9:01 a.m.: PG&E is reporting that power should have been restored as of 9 a.m. However, the outage map is still showing about 1600 customers without power.

UPDATE 9:09 a.m.: Most customers have had their power restored in the Redway/Garberville to Whitethorn area. However, PG&E Outage Map still says just under 250 customers in the Petrolia and the Redway area.
