Trinity Bray, Mother Who Went Missing with Three-Year-Old Son Over One Year Ago, Booked into Mendocino CO Jail for Child Neglect

Trinity Bray is the mother who went missing in northern Mendocino County along with her three-year-old son after a single-vehicle accident on November 30, 2020. Four days later, Bray and her son were found on the side of Highway 101.

Over one year later, Bray was booked into the Mendocino County jail yesterday afternoon for a felony charge of abandonment/child neglect.

In an interview, last December, California Highway Patrol’s Sergeant Matthew Harvey revealed information investigators have gathered regarding the traffic accident and the subsequent disappearance which prompted a criminal investigation that could lead to Bray being charged with child endangerment and felony hit and run.

Please note, there has not been any confirmation that the charges described in the booking logs are related to last December’s incident.

We have an inquiry with both California Highway Patrol Garberville tomorrow morning as well as the Mendocino County District Attorney David Eyester for further information and confirmation.

Sergeant Harvey told us initial reports on November 30, 2020, indicated at approximately 12:00 p.m., a single-vehicle accident occurred when a gray Toyota Sienna crashed into a tree going northbound on Highway 101. Officers reporting to the scene found one adult male in the vehicle who had sustained major injuries who was later transported to an area hospital.

Witnesses told dispatch an adult female was seen walking away from the single-vehicle accident either carrying or walking with the child. Based on these reports, CHP officers canvassed Highway 101 assisted by Leggett Valley Volunteer Fire Department who hiked the embankments alongside the highway.

Sergeant Harvey explained Bray told investigators that after the single-vehicle car crash, she and her child fell down a steep embankment, falling into the Eel River, and found abandoned marijuana grow across the river to take refuge in throughout the four days they were missing. As of last December, investigators were unable to corroborate these claims, said Sergeant Harvey.

Mendocino County’s Search and Rescue team, Leggett Valley Volunteer Fire, CHP, and other agencies assisted in the search for Bray and her son in the days following their disappearance.

It was at approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 4 when CHP began to receive reports of a naked woman sitting in the middle of Highway 101, according to Sergeant Harvey. A driver stopped to speak with the distressed woman who indicated there was a child down the embankment. Upon receiving these reports, Sergeant Harvey said CHP officers were “confident that it would be Bray and the child.”

Below are photos from KMUD News taken as the mother and child were located.

Sergeant Harvey said first responders found the child significantly down the embankment along Highway 101 and one witness had told CHP the child was “holding onto a log.”

Sergeant Harvey said this case is specifically difficult to speak about because “we have a young child who is potentially the victim of a crime. We want to be sensitive to that information. Initially, we put out more information about the child than we would because he was missing.”

Head injuries are no joke so I hope she was evaluated for that before they decided she was a child abuser.

You would be correct this article nor have most of them been informative at all . So she went to sit on the embankment to wait for help she had a head injury as well as other injuries they slipped and fell rolled down the thing , became disoriented, this whole time the police did not want to search for them at all myself and a few others had to call and stay on them constantly to get them found and in the end hypothermic broken bones and frostbite she managed to crawl back up the ridge herself since one of her arms were severely injured she told her son to hold on and stay put she was going to find help they needed help the clothing was stripped off bc it had become soaked and she was trying to prevent as much freeze as possible to both of them . This was not a hit and run this was an accident a tragic accident and we are blessed they are alive the police have made these charges to save face at the neglect of their responsibilities to serve and protect. So who’s really wrong here ? Yet through all of this she has complied with everything asked of her taking mom classes to regain custody home inspections constancy drug tests and pop up visits none of which either her or her son have deserved and in one of his placements he was abused so how’s that for inflicting trauma and the city, county, and state did that to a baby!

Please continue your support as her sister I’m happy to accurately update what’s going on here !

We refused the original case. The county had her as a Plaintiff. There was just so many conflicts with her ever changing story.

P.S. They actually pulled her print off the steering wheel. It was baffling to say the least as to how she was not a defendant.

I was wondering when this was going to come up…. I really didn’t think the Mendocino DA or the sheriff’s department would just let this one slide

Never let anything slide when a child is involved is the policy everyone should go by.
I hope this kiddo gets a chance in life. It’s in the DAs hands now

What about your wife too and she has a broken arm and frostbite and can’t carry the child up the embankment and every time you call the police for updates they aren’t doing anything? How many people go missing there accidental and not that are never found because they don’t look ? Guess how my sister was found no matter how much we stayed on them in order to be found she had to climb up an embankment with broken bones a broken arm frost bite one her feet and finger a head injury and hypothermia.

I don’t see here any mention of the mental health department being being active in this case. What is wrong with our society?

Her mental health assessment was part of the process…I’m more concerned for the small child that was found down the embankment holding onto a log…

So thankfully my nephew wasn’t hypothermic had no broken bones or injuries and no frostbite, bc my sister did protect him as much as possible until they got help she on the other hand had substantial injuries. We as a family have to worry about later issues with him due to abuse he the baby my nephew sustained while he was in placement by the state so there’s that.

Hi so my name is Nicole Bray , I am Trinity’s older sister. Now that being said I’ve stayed very active in what’s going with my sister and my Nephew I have emailed this paper to let them know I’m happy to provide accurate information on this story as it seems she’s being painted in a negative light that is not consistent with her energy as a loving mother, so feel that it’s not anyone’s fault the only information given has been completely one sided from a very corrupt system , and I thought Florida was bad well…..
So please don’t negatively judge my sister until you truly no the facts our system is innocent until proven guilty and she’s getting a lot of immediate judgment and that’s not right . Thank you

I understand more than most the presumption of innocence.

In situations where let’s just call it your “caught red handed”, you have blood on your hands and yes you are still innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law. Even though you are washing the blood off in a police station sink, you still are innocent in the eyes of Justice, for the time being.

I hope you were able to follow my train of thought.

When children are involved a preponderance of guilt is really all that’s needed. This low burdon of proof is in the best interest of the child, usually, not in all cases.

I am not, not saying she is a horrible mother and should have spent the last year of her life being prepared for the inevitable child welfare cases.

Awhile back, 1988 to be more exacting. I worked as a bridge laborer up at the Sayler bypass bridges. One of the guys I worked with was in a car wreck on that bad turn right after Sayler as you head to Redding. He went to the side of the road and sat down then passed out and fell all the way to the river. Only way they knew were he went was there were people who watched it happen. He ended up in a wheel chair. I bring this up because a couple of you knuckleheads just like to argue and stir the pot trying to get people upset. Thats sad. What happened here is sad. Its sad all around. Placing blame and casting disparaging remarks. What does that solve. Maybe as we are almost to Christmas a little love and tolerance would be more apropos. So to all please be kind have a wonderful holiday and if within your means pay something forward.
