Residents along a half mile stretch of the Van Duzen Road in Trinity County between Hwy 36 and the Southern Trinity Joint Unified School District are being evacuated following a gas leak that occurred about 1:00 p.m., according to scanner traffic.

Details are scarce, according to the CHP in Trinity River as their officer is still responding to the scene. The spokesperson we talked with could not confirm evacuations as the officer was still traveling to the remote area. Nor could the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office.

At this point, it is unclear what caused the leak.

PG&E’s estimated time of arrival is 2:07 p.m.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 3:22 p.m.: The gas has now been turned off. The road is now open, the evacuation is over, and Southern Trinity Volunteer Fire Department is released.
