High speed pursuit

About 1:30 a.m., a Rio Dell law enforcement officer attempted to pull over a blue Toyota Tacoma that was traveling southbound on 101 near Shively, according to a report from the officer to dispatch over the scanner. The officer said that the driver of the vehicle fled the officer and exited 101.

The officer said the vehicle crashed and had front end damage, but the driver continued to drive the vehicle, eventually heading northbound along the river bar.

The officer did not follow in his vehicle but got out and began patrolling on foot. At 1:40 a.m., he told the dispatcher he saw headlights that may belong to the suspect vehicle.

UPDATE 1:47 a.m.: The scanner traffic is unclear but it sounds as if the officer is no longer searching.

UPDATE 2:09 a.m.: The officer and at least one other officer (possibly a Humboldt County deputy) are still searching the river bar.
