Press release from BLM:

Guided walks, living history performances, and a book signing are highlights of a celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the Trinidad Lighthouse set for Saturday, Dec. 4, at the historic lighthouse on Trinidad Head. Events run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants can meet for tours and information at the Trinidad Civic Club tent at the Memorial Lighthouse parking area. From there, members of the Trinidad Coastal Land Trust will lead half-mile walks to the

still-functioning historic lighthouse where there will be informational exhibits and opportunities to climb inside the lighthouse for stunning views of the coastline and Pacific Ocean.

Living history performances will occur between 11 a.m.1 p.m. Kimberly Buckmaster, a daughter of a Trinidad Lighthouse keeper, will speak at 12:45 p.m., and a U. S. Coast Guard representative will be on hand to present information on how the lighthouse continues to aid navigation for today’s ocean-going vessels. Signings of the book, “Lighthouses of Humboldt County,” will occur all day.

The hike from the Memorial Lighthouse site to the historic lighthouse follows a paved trail with a moderately steep section. Those with walking difficulties can reserve a time for assistance by calling 707-834-3089 in advance of the event.

The Bureau of Land Management Arcata Field Office is hosting the event in partnership with the Trinidad Museum Society, the Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, the Trinidad Rancheria and the City of Trinidad. The lighthouse began functioning in 1871 with an oil-fired light. The Coast Guard transferred the lighthouse and its 13-acre parcel to the BLM in 2014. An electronic light continues to flash signals to vessels at sea.

Trinidad head is part of the California Coastal National Monument, one of the 28 national monuments managed by the BLM as part of its conservation mission and partnership with communities.

I highly recommend checking this out. It’s a really cool look back in time. There is some great history with the Lighthouse. What some people may not know is many years ago there was a wave so big it broke the windows on the Lighthouse way up on the cliff. Go to this event to learn more. It’s a great hike and the people are super friendly!
