Man Arrested for Forcibly Attempting to Rape a Person He Knew

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Arthur Austin Streb

Arthur Austin Streb

On Nov. 28, 2021, at about 11:51 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of the North Jetty for the report of a possible domestic violence situation.

Due to the location of the incident, a California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) warden was also dispatched to respond. A CDFW warden arrived and located 36-year-old Arthur Austin Streb and an adult victim. The victim was found to have moderate physical injuries resulting from a domestic violence incident.

Based upon the findings of their investigation, Sheriff’s deputies placed Streb under arrest. During their investigation, deputies also found Streb to be in possession of approximately 5 grams of cocaine.

Streb was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted forcible rape (PC 273.5(a)), assault with intent to commit rape (PC 220), preventing/dissuading a victim (PC 136.1(a)), inflicting corporal injury on a spouse (PC 273.5(a)), possession of a controlled substance (HS 11350) and criminal threats (PC 422).

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Note: We have changed the title on this piece after learning that even though the charge is “inflicting corporal injury on a spouse” that does not always mean an actual married partner.

As a good friend once said to me, if you don’t like eating together and you don’t like sleeping together, you probably shouldn’t be together.

As one comedian opined on the nature of relationships, the longer you are in a relationship, there’s usually more eating, and less fucking.

From his oval face, I’d say the cocaine wasn’t working as an appetite suppressant.

It says spouse, not lady…
That could mean several things these days.

By identifying the victim as the “spouse” of the attempted rapist she has effectively been identified. Is this not against journalistic ethics?
This is doxing, and ugly.

It just seems to me that it should be (and most often is) the victim’s choice as to whether or not they are identified. It often adds to the trauma to be identified before a chance to recover. As a victim of rape myself, this is how I feel. Isn’t it enough to say the man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault & other charges with out identifying the victim as a “spouse”?
You know I am a huge fan of your reporting Kym. The first place I go each day for news.

You to both are hero’ s and amazing! Talk about a conversation that ruins a morning cup of coffee. Poor ladies, I often wish they had the means to turn into wonder women and do a little ” take that, you bad person.”

Not to go off tangent, but my Mom was going to get her heart cut out by my father, she prayed and he walked away from a rage and made a lamb sound.

When she told me, she confirmed it was the animal sound because she was a farm girl. She was mesmerized upon reflecting this account, and I.

Women are known to lift 18 wheelers to save their children, they have the power…

I agree.

This definitely could have been reported on with out mentioning his relationship to the person he assaulted.

Yes that is true about a lot of things now a days; Like Being shamed & feeling ashamed for drug addiction, homelessness, having little too no money, education level, medical conditions, and the list is sadly longer than it should have ever should be.

Because as a man you feel entitled to sex if you are married?
That was a question sir, not an assumption. But I cannot imagine another reason you might be confused

She most assuredly feels entitled to half of the estate. The institution of marriage has some major flaws, but it’s still a choice.

Imagine that.

What if the government could force married people to engage on grounds that the contract is a government Contract, and that it was for public health and safety that sex was a right, and not a choice?

If a man or a woman doesn’t want sex, does the other party need to go elsewhere? Infidelity is grounds for divorce, yet withholding sexual relations are not.

I think you misunderstood, or I wasn’t able to clearly make my point. The INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE, Is a failed business model.

The question is whether or not the church or state can dictate those choices, like it wants to with forced medical procedures without informed consent

It’s interesting to see rape minimized in other cultures. Many of those cultures don’t mix well with ours.

That’s the theory, but in reality the divorce laws result in very different incentives for men and women. Most divorces, especially no-fault divorces, are initiated by women. For men, marrying the wrong woman can be an economically ruinous proposition. Pre-nuptials are important.

Many people are, lemme see if I can help. My ex became a felon for attempted rape,DV, false imprisonment.Separate bedrooms, repeated requests by me for a divorce for over a year.,( I didn’t have enough money to move, and no financial control. Big mistake.) I had kids to support. (Not his) He decided one night to brutally attack me. I’m glad I fought, survived . He had lots of co workers support. Shame on them. I hope this info helps u understand. I didn’t read this case, but I did read the comments alot of which are hateful. Many spouses never speak up,and this is why.

I think the bedrock of most of our problems are too little financial opportunity, or in the few, too much financial opportunity.

It should be excruciatingly difficult to get married. If you can’t afford it, stay single. Credit checks, on and on

Divorce, not so much….one-page aND your DONE.

I will say these are the worst cases. They expose the grime. 99% of them don’t make it. State pushes a plea, if he is out on bond, no chance. Detained. 50/50.

In the heat of the moment, words are exchanged, fists, sometimes it’s just about creating the biggest splash at the moment, regretfully, usually. etc etc..

In the rare event that this does go to trial, it gets really bad really fast. For both parties, especially if kids are involved.

There is usually more going on at home and the state is very interested in the children’s well being if there are children. These charges are intense to say the least, yet almost never ever stick, especially in Humboldt.

Sadly, there is serious marital issues, regardless of the outcome.
