Arcata Postpones Holiday Craft Market Until 2022, Offers ‘COVID-19 Safe Outdoor’ Alternatives

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

City of ArcataAfter careful consideration for the health and wellness of the community, the City of Arcata’s Recreation Division has postponed the Holiday Craft Market fundraiser until 2022.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Holiday Craft Market hosted 60 vendors and nearly 2,000 shoppers during the two-day, indoor event each year. For twenty years, the market created a space for local artists, musicians, and crafters to come together, share their talents with the community, and to help raise funds for Arcata Recreation Division’s Youth Development Scholarship Fund, which supports youth in the community by subsidizing fees for recreation programs year-round. Thanks to a generous COVID-19 relief grant provided by Changing Tides Family Services, Arcata Recreation’s Youth Development Scholarship Fund has ample funds to continue to support youth in the community over the next year.

The City of Arcata looks forward to resuming Holiday Craft Market festivities next year, and encourages the community to shop local and support local artists, crafters, musicians, vendors and businesses this holiday season. A list of local vendors from previous Holiday Craft Markets is available at cityofarcata.org with links to their websites for online shopping. Plus, many other outdoor winter markets are taking place in Arcata this holiday season. Arcata Main Street will host their annual Season of Wonder and Light events on the Plaza, with many family-friendly opportunities to celebrate the winter season and support small businesses. Arcata Main Street’s COVID-19 safe outdoor activities include:

  • Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 27. Arcata Main Street will host an activity table at the Arcata Farmers’ Market. There will also be music on the Plaza, and Main Street will light Arcata’s downtown holiday decorations around 5:30 p.m.

Maybe someone could leave a message on Arcata’s answering machine to let them know that the pandemic is essentially over in California . Such a ridiculous town..
