What’s with the “update” psych-outs?

Is it just me that isn’t getting the updates that are indicated?

Definitely a click generator, if the stated updates don’t post for a half hour or more…

Just curious…

Sometimes you need to hit the refresh button. For example, I notice sometimes when I’m on the main page I’ll see 12 comments and then I go to view the comments and it’ll only show 8. Hit the refresh button and all 12 show. I think it’s showing the cached page from the previous time I viewed. Weird because it only happens on this site. Maybe Kym could have her internet person look into this. ?‍♂️

Glad it turned out to be nothing and that we had professionals on hand to deal with it safely if it had been an actual explosive device.

Out of curiosity, anybody know what a response like this one costs?

Possibly some ones life if it is real and they play with the thing. Be something a young kid might like to play with. I am more worried about the bomb tech placing his equipment near the pipe and running the line to a safe location to set it off. Can’t put a price on human life.

Those officers are just doing their job. Why would there be any additional cost?

Not additional cost, just cost. They’re all paid for their time, and I’m just curious how much law enforcement responses like this one actually cost.

The actual cost depends upon the staffing level for the day. Members of an EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL UNIT (BOMB SQUAD) aren’t always on duty.

If you really want to know, get to work: Public records request for who was there, for how long, their salary, etc. Government by the people and for the people.

Someone lost a chunk of pipe out of their truck, and it cost us how much for the police to go blow it up?

First thing I thought when I saw all the rust was that it fall out of a truck and been there awhile. But, better safe than sorry. Would you also be bitching if the real thing was disregarded by the police and blew up in a kid’s face?

That’s very ugly.

Definitely worthy of the response.

Thank you to the HCSO Team.

There is a lawyers office right there. So its not surprising it was treated very seriously.

Though after seeing the pic, and looking at it a bit longer. Looks like someone’s improvised pressure vessel. If that really is a brass Shrader valve on the one end.

I know the police have to take such reports seriously. And it is good practice. But they could write more precisely. How can a “device” that has no explosives in it be “rendered safe.” It was safe from the beginning unless somebody was using it as a club. Just saying it was found not contain any dangerous material would be more accurate.

It does resemble a pipe bomb and these days we must take precautions…

I believe they’re the Ordnance Disposal Team. Ordinances are not generally explosive 😉

You’re thinking about it all the wrong way.
This is a JOBS program: Keep people bust, employed, and paying taxes. Without all three day in and day out, we’re all in deep caca.

As an employee of the public defenders office, this county parking lot adjacent to our building has become a daily nightmare just getting from your car to the office door. If you knew the history you would understand why this was taken seriously. County employees must step over needles, nails, broken glass, human feces, and a variety of broken pieces of metal every single working day. It is not uncommon for employees to encounter someone under the influence who scream, yell, and threaten them as the step from their vehicle. We work in a war zone.

considered paying you a visit at one point in my life. Public offenders should watch they’re back when they’re working so closely with the DAs office
