Information from Caltrans District 2:

In order to expedite repairs on State Route 299, following damage from the Monument Fire and rockslides, Caltrans District 2 will be increasing closure times. This move is necessary in order to make sure work is completed prior to the arrival of peak winter season.

Effective Monday, November 1, State Route 299 will be closed 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m Monday through Saturday from post mile 14.8 (Cedar Flat) to post mile 31 (east of Big Bar). During this closure period, there will be three openings at 7:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

To ensure you’ll get through during the openings, please arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the open time. Traffic that is in line at the opening times will be escorted via pilot car simultaneously from both sides.
From 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., one way traffic control will be in effect. Sunday, one way traffic control will be in place between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
This schedule is subject to change without prior notice. Caltrans and its contractors do our best to keep the public informed. To stay up-to-date on this and other highway projects, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter. The public can also call (530) 225-3426 during working hours or send an email to [email protected].

It would be a great service to the community if Caltrans didn’t leave so many large rocks in their construction zones that end up breaking windshields. Further more it would do the community justice by relieving Kathy King of her job in damage/ insurance claims and set up a fillable online insurance form for damage caused by Caltrans. It takes 9-10 weeks for Caltrans to be held accountable for damaging our property. Be the vehicle for change stand up for yourselves against these prehistoric autocratic systems. God bye Kathy king!

Last year they spent millions on fencing all of the major rockfalls and slide areas , even used helicopters to string it up. Unfortunately the fires did what fires do and now we have new slides to deal with

Caltrans needs to construct a concrete tunnel through the entire corridor. Bring in one of the huge tunnel machines. Start at one end and drill a straight line. After decades of surface work costing millions time to do it right. It’s been dome in other countries like Austria, Iceland, France and England and Italy.

Reply to WYCFI,

Right on brother. Many traffic problems can be solved by tunneling.

Oh, wow, what a perfect project for President Biden’s Build Back Better program. Spend 3 trillion on roads, bridges, rails as well as parks and the environment, like air and water protection. Instead of tax breaks for the Uber-rich so they can get rocket rides to space while the planet festers (2017 Tax Bill).

Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot. The Blue Wave petered out and Republicans gained House seats, but the election was “stolen” and two DINOS and all the Republicans are killing Biden’s plan.

Is it Thanksgiving yet?

I like how they said this would be to be finished prior to the peak winter season, and here it is March 2022 and they are still blocking traffic to “work”.

There’s no excuse to stop traffic for 20 minutes every 20 miles on the 299…especially when theres nothing to fix, nothing is being done! Caltrans is the biggest joke! If they really cared they would be doing this at night like most road construction companies do. They do this at rush hour and other peak hours of traffic.
