Water, Sweet Water…Ruth Lake Overflowing

The Ruth Lake Dam spillway is roaring again. This means Ruth Lake is at least at 100% capacity. When the water level tops 100%, it begins flowing over the spillway.

On Sunday, October 25, the Lake had reached 95% capacity according to the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District’s webpage. But yesterday, it burst its bounds.

According to Ed Johnson, a local resident who took the above video, “[The lake] must have came up over 10 feet since Friday. I can’t remember ever seeing it rise this fast… .”

UPDATE 9:07 a.m.: The Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District’s webpage now says that the lake is at 101% capacity.

I went to the south dock yesterday. It’s starting to come up. My fish need the real state 😂 but like the punch line to all Lawyer jokes, “it’s a start”

The river feeding it is labeled the East Fork of the Russian River, but nearly all the water in it comes from the Eel River through the Potter Valley Project diversion.

Thanks Mendo folks!

It sounds like Lake Pillsbury has to fill first. Then they will divert to Mendo.
