Two Arrested After Discovery of Drugs and Ammunition
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Oct. 21, 2021, at about 2:32 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the area of Central Avenue and Margo Lane, in McKinleyville, conducted a traffic stop on a truck towing another vehicle.
Deputies contacted two individuals associated with the vehicles, one of which, 35-year-old Austin Grant Barnett, initially provided deputies with a false name. Upon being positively identified, Barnett was found to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest in addition to being on formal probation. Barnett was taken into custody for his warrants. During a search of his vehicle incident to arrest, deputies located approximately 80 Perc-30 pills and ammunition.
Due to the circumstances surrounding Barnett’s illegal possession of the pills, deputies conducted a probation check at Barnett’s residence on the 2300 block of Central Avenue.
Inside the residence, deputies located 35-year-old Megan Pond, who was also known to have several outstanding warrants. Pond was taken into custody for her warrants. During a search of the residence, deputies located additional Perc-30 pills.
Barnett was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sales (HS 11351), prohibited person in possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)), false identification to a peace officer (PC 148.9(a)) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)).
Pond was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance (HS 11350) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)), in addition to warrant charges of prohibited person in possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)), possession of drugs where prisoners are held (PC 4573.6) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)).
This case is still under investigation.

Austin….that mushroom meets Chia Pet do is impressive.
Wait 2:30am, towing a vehicle with your truck and you have drugs and ammo in one of the vehicles…In the “You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me” category….never mind I almost forgot – we are in n Humboldt!
No brains were located at the scene
They really aged quick after murder mountain lol..All around trashy people
His whole story line on that show was bs. He’s a Humboldt transplant & the property he was filmed on wasn’t even his lol
Wow! Cops are on extra alert after bar closing- we all know this. Worst possible time to tow a broken truck AND a bunch of pills WHILE having warrants out. Almost sounds like he was asking for this to happen…And yeah- Megan looks tore up. C’mon guys- you’re only 35 and you can still turn it around if you want!
If their sentence is anything but an 18 month rehab total waste of time for them, courts, probation, their families, society. Sobriety takes time to take hold it is not a 30 day situation to resolution.❤
Agreed and I wish we had more resources for people to rehab successfully. I had a few friends pull themselves out of the heroin trap in their mid thirties and they are doing great still 20 years later. Family resources and money for effective rehab were key. Having a job waiting for them to keep them busy and productive was very helpful in their recovery. It’s a rough road back but many have pulled it off
If we had enough resources for that, I love it. Scale it up, write it in the state penal code. But you have to, have to, have to build the facilities and teach and equip the staff to make that happen. Right now, so many people who have committed no crimes and would love to get into an 18-month program (or any kind of program) face too many barriers to access. If it’s a court mandate my best advice, as someone in recovery trying to help someone in recovery, would be to encourage someone who wants to get sober to commit a crime.
While it’s not that extreme in its current form, the judicial reward complex we have now is not demonstrably better. And as long as our mental health care system is as broken as it is in this county and in this state, we will continue to get poor results. Using the justice system to solve a problem with the healthcare system is not a viable way of governing. I am a liberal, and I like government, but that does not mean I like shitty government.
Fixing this will take effort and true courage, and in a world where most of us hide behind our avatars on social media true courage is harder and harder to find these days. And after all, if we got everyone the help they needed, we wouldn’t have these folks’ mugshots to make fun of so we could feel better about ourselves. If those of us that are brave enough to stand for mental health reform win, it won’t just be the mugshots. We can render making fun of people obsolete!
young enough to turn the crazy train around, get going in the right direction
Sad she was most likely once a pretty girl
That’s the dude from Murder Mountain
The pills going around as “perc 30’s” or “blues” are just street Fentynl..
In possession of drugs and ammunition, but apparently not soap and water.
GOT LICE!!!
GOT LICE !!!
It’s so sad, all the lives being ruined by drugs. So easy to get. So hard to quit.
Everyone’s life is a culmination of your choices.
She was once cute and could be again but today we are weary.
Does anyone know if these folks are back out on the street again? People are dying from those Fentynol pills. One of my sons close friends just died very recently. His dad found him blue and cold in the basement . Very sad. They need to get these suppliers off the streets and atleast make it harder for the kids to get this deadly stuff.
