About 6:24 this morning, a white van carrying seven tanks of Nitrous Oxide went off northeastbound Hwy 101 at mile marker 75.9 north of Laytonville and collided with the embankment, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Rick Fowler.

The officer told us that the driver left the scene but made his way to the Leggett Fire station where he was subsequently arrested for a DUI.

“We have not have not found a business reason for them at this time,” said Fowler speaking about the tanks.

One way controlled traffic is in effect in the area until Mendocino County Health finishes their evaluation and the vehicle and its chemical contents can be removed from the crash site.

The van is off the side of the road and traffic is only slightly slowing through the area, according to Caltrans QuickMap.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

One of the tanks must have been leaking.

Was the accident caused by a gelastic seizure?

Was he still having one when he reached the fire station?

Why can’t I stop laughing?

(Just kidding)

Did the van have Pennsylvania plates? It’s hard to keep the Philly Nitrous Mob away from the vicinity of any Phish show.

Were the tanks hooked up to the engine, or the driver…

That’s some kinda big-old bomb, glad it didn’t go off…

I think your a bit outta the loop. Can’t even get a box of whip it’s for $20. And these were tanks of nitrous probly worth thousands when sold “on tour”

Nahhh. I’ve been seeing the cases on sale online you can also buy them loose. Some of the spent cartridges are refilled and shipped over from China who knows what’s really in them . Purchase100 box off Amazon no ID required. Been to random people’s places where spent ones sitting in 5 gallon buckets are stacked in the yard. Every party. They had to start IDing for buying the dust off solution for blowing off your computers or Electronics because kids/teens were huffing the propellants in that which is very similar to the nitrous high . A lot of the doctors in the emergency rooms are dealing with people with all these crazy neurological symptoms only to find out that they’ve been using nitrous/whip its. It’s a really f***** up situation just another thing to get f***** up on WHY???
Its nice to have a brain that functions for many reasons!!! ❤

Years ago Garberville had a Dentist that stored his nitrous outside. Strangely, the tanks were always empty.

Not quite sure if the leaking tank was affecting whoever counted the tanks at scene but it was a lot more than 7….

I see what you’re going for, but, isn’t gas still matter? I mean, it’s not energy. It’s just not solid, like ice. Gonna have to relearn all this in 5 or so years when my granddaughter gets to that level. Now THAT will be funny.

We drove by the site of the accident about 7:45. There was a lot of fog – both outside and inside the van, apparently.
