Humboldt County Residents Join Statewide Walkout to Protest COVID Vaccine Mandates

Yesterday, about 9 a.m., Humboldt County parents and students boycotting class gathered in front of the courthouse in Eureka to protest vaccine/testing mandates for schoolkids. In a phased rollout, eventually all students must either have the vaccine or be tested weekly.

When our reporter Ryan Hutson arrived on scene about 11:40 a.m., some of the participants had already left. However, between 40 and 50 protestors continued to hold signs and engage with passersby.

When California became the first state in the nation to add the COVID-19 vaccination to it’s 10 other vaccines already required for students and staff of all public and private schools, a number of residents of the state became angry. That anger became a call to keep students home from class on Monday, October 18, in an effort to show schools that they would lose money given by the state for each student.

However, according to a letter sent out by Dr. Chris Hartley, Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools,

We understand that families and students may have strong emotions and questions about COVID-19 safety measures, including vaccine and testing requirements. However, keeping children home from school to protest a COVID-19 vaccine requirement announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom, as posts on some social media outlets are suggesting, would only result in lost learning time for our students. Our school funding will not be impacted by absences. But our children will be.

Thousands of students stayed home from class yesterday across the state, according to reports in news outlets. We asked the Humboldt County Office of Education how many public school students stayed home Monday in our area, however, Ken Conlin, their Public Information Officer, told us they didn’t have numbers at the time of our request.

To get a feel for the numbers across the state, we checked media elsewhere. The Record Searchlight reported that 45% of the Enterprise Elementary School District with lesser but still substantial numbers out in other districts.

The Sacramento Bee said that the rally held at the state capitol had more than a thousand participants.

In the Ocean View School District in Orange County “student absences were up 9.27% from the previous Monday,” said the LA Times.

Well, another super-constructive “mini-protest” by the folks who just can’t be satisfied…

I have no answers anymore, for entitled little babies who just won’t play-nice by the rules of society…

We give you schools, and you griped when the kids stayed home all day, you fussed that they “needed to go back to school”, and now, every effort is being made to make it safe to resume classes, and you are complaining that you “don’t want it to be safe”…

There’s just no pleasing some people, but you all march around with your silly signs and fuss some more…

Just keep your kids home, and everyone else will carry on without you, and in a couple of years, when you are begging for a couple bucks in the parking lots, or looking for work cleaning the houses of folks who actually have jobs, please remember when you would not join in, be responsible enough or sensible enough, to merely get one more vaccine…

You have an obligation to take care of yourself, but you also have an obligation to care for society, and the planet you live on!

Being a selfish little ‘know-nothing” will not help you, or anyone else. Don’t waste the time of your life refusing to help, participate, or care for others or yourself…

Life is a short affair. Wasting time will get you nowhere, and once your time is up, that’s it!

Get your vaccine! Do it today!

Why do you have an obligation to take care of a society that is continually restricting your freedoms, and allowing others exceptions to their edicts. How many illegal immigrants and transients are wearing masks and are vaccinated? Even the president entered a restaurant without a mask as did that governor of california who is taking your gas powered tools and cars away. If we had a government that would stop preaching, regulating and lying so much perhaps people would be more willing to comply. I believe this may be a specific reaction to an enormous amount of societal contempt for the runaway government we are dealing with.

Well, I don’t much care for the government, either…

I care about the healthcare system, but brother, even that is full of holes that things drop through..

The pandemic has screwed everything up, but, we need healthcare free to take care of routine and emergency care, and we need people to help by taking their vaccine.

Dr Hoffman just said it again:

“Vaccines continue to be the best, safest, most cost-effective protection against COVID-19 disease for our community. Data continues to support that communities with higher vaccination rates have seen less hospital and death burden during the Delta surge even though there are cases in the fully vaccinated. Post-vaccine cases are milder, less likely to spread to close contacts, and are much less [likely] to result in severe disease.”

Be responsible, get vaccinated, and your kids too…

The social interaction is nice, but I personally think home schooling is better. A more rounded education to fit the child’s needs. Lots of charter schools. One near where my son lives and all the children are wearing masks. So their parents must be OK with it, same for a christian school up the hill. Maybe the “silent majority” this time is the people that think masks are a good idea.

Make it safe to resume class? Where you been VMG , FUHS been in class the last year and a half. Like 4 cases of covid in that period of time, 0 deaths ,0 hospitalizations , 700 kids. Why is there a mandate? To prevent 4 non threatening cases of the flu over the last year and half? Ridiculousness, the older crowd needs to accept the reality, your not ever going to stop the flu, now let’s get back to normal and start calling deaths of old frail people, died of natural causes , like we used to for the previous 100 years.

EDUCATE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE.! EDUCATE BEFORE YOU MANDATE! So ok I said listened read researched, in an open unbiased way. I knew I would be getting a vaccine but I wanted to to know what I was taking. THERE ARE NO WORDS I CAN FIND TO DESCRIBE WHAT I FOUND ONLINE, all by myself. Education is the least of it. What I did find was absolute legitimate literal evidence and testimony from scientists, medical drs., and hundreds of other professional health care, researchers, organized world wide for their brilliant works these pasts decades. WHO HAVE HAVE BEEN TESTING STUDYING THE PANDEMIC FROM THE BEGINNING. EXAMINING ITS CONTENTS, CHARTing THE BATCHES. REcORDInG THE DEATHS AND VA CINE
INJURIES. ITS ALL THERE ON LINE. NEEDLESS TO SAY ILL NEVER TRUST MY GOVERNMENT hospitals. Big pharma, big tech again. EVER AGAIN. IVE GO E FROM being 62 yr retired grandma., Democrat to an outraged, mad as a hornet, American patriot, now An Indepedent also. I am shocked how these incidious creeping snakes have lied to me. Have used fear to make me wear a smake. Miss church, family, . The evidence that this entire thing was planned to destroy the last free nation on earth is ABOLUTELY UNDENIABLE, AND OVERWHELMING. I lived free my whole life and Im dieing free, period
Go ahead. Keep complying. Just here to let you know America is in the last of her death throws. The gunshot you just heard, that’s me fighting with everybit of strength , for not complying, I made sure my blood stained all the ground around me before dying. My only victory is knowing the Lord cometh and this time…oh…yeah….HE,’S LOADED FOR BEAR…..soo….best be right with your Jesus…….jus….sayin…..

Hey Hartly, you should hear the comments from some of our students. They have decided to protect their reproductive systems and not get the vaccine. They would rather forgo your schools, get their GED, and be out working for themselves. Many of them who are exposed to real text books written 20 or 30 years ago, which disagree with your junk texts of today, which tell lies, know this. We parents debrief our kids from your disgusting lies being told in your classrooms. CRT, and other crap you try to impose on them, falls on deaf ears. We are teaching them the skills they need to be independent and free, how to stay away from colleges, and have a debt free life. Your indoctrination centers which try to turn them into brain dead conformists of the corporate culture, and to not question what they hear, are on unstable ground. And we know you are lying about not losing money if students don’t show up for school. That is one of your problems, you think you and your kind are smarter than us. That’s why you think you can lie to us. But you are not smarter, we see through your agenda. We teach our kids these things everyday.

OH, and anyone with useful skills, education or professional background can immigrate to Australia, if somebody is wanting to hire them…

Then, once in Australia 2 years, these folks can immigrate to the US and get a green card, if being hired by an American company…

American companies were doing this, a couple years ago, but now, companies like UBER are offshoring Engineering entirely, to ucky places like India and China…

So, adapt, or die, Connie…

Well, Rex will definitely accept graft from both sides, but I am amazed to read a quote from him…

He probably borrowed the quote from some internet site, and now you are crediting it to him with no particular reference…

There IS endless info, but a heck of a lot of it is incorrect…

Rex Bohn is one of the ones wasting the County resources on weekly testing, rather than simply requiring county employees to get vaccinated…

If you want your kids to go to school, have them immunized! Or keep them home!

Marching in the streets is your right, but don’t be surprised if nobody pays any attention to your protestations, since most people are going about their business, just as you should be…

Nobody, not even Rex Bohn, has a magic wand to make COVID go away! So, YOU might be best advised to do your part, wear a mask, wash your hands, and get yourself and your families immunized!

You will eventually be immunized. Why not just do it today?

Oooo way to stick it to them! 😂😂😂 Show them you’re ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS with your intent to not only put your OWN child in danger, but also ALL their classmates, teachers AND school staff. Ya know, cause y’all can’t grasp the “complexity” of vaccines, it’s not like you’ve been given them your WHOLE LIFE, along with those same said children or anything like that. SHOW them how your little tantrum will effect the school MORE than your intentional neglect! Because damn taking your kid outta school in protest is so much more impactful than the DAMAGE a kid infecting their classmates, teachers and school staff (taking it home to all the families of these children) for YOUR personal “freedom” (ahem ignorance) wouldn’t cause any sort of interruption or loss of school days, right? So let’s coddle YOU and your desire to infect the masses?? NO. Keep your DAMN germ infested kids home with their germ infected families and the rest of us will get on with life and protecting our families. We shouldn’t have to cater to these IDIOTS.

At least five varients. And renewed every five to 10 years. But then the corona viruses are spectacularly adaptive and that any vaccine was developed for them at all is remarkable.

That’s a very kind and thoughtful thing to do. I thank you.

Was it mandated by the government? I think that’s the difference folks are upset about.

I’m pro-vaccine and still don’t want the governor making the decision for others.

About 1 in 100,000, statistically. And none of the kids. Of 70 million school age kids 400+ have died with Covid and only 20 had no serious underlying conditions. Knowing how to swim will save more kids than a covid jab.

Seriously, the list can go on and on. Kids are most likely to die from car crashes, accidental deaths, homicides and cancer. Things such as CPR, parenting classes, swim classes, basic common sense, gun safes, internet safety, etc would be more beneficial to society and safety of kids than this vaccine.

why is it so lost on anti vaxers that car crashes, accidental deaths, homicides and cancer are NOT contagious. The rate and ease of infections spreading is why covid is so dangerous. Couple that with the fact you can have it, carry it, spread it and not even have any symptoms.

I’m not saying I agree with this “world reset” plot however, there are massive protests and backlash in many countries against the vaccine, vaccine mandates, vaccine passport program, travel restrictions, quarantine mandates, harassment from government, etc. it’s not to be ignored and is quite disturbing that many seem to be okay with complete government control in the guise of “public safety.”

Get the vaxx if you want, don’t get the vaxx if you don’t want,

but people should have the right to chose.

There were about 50 people protesting against the vaxx mandates, locally at the courthouse, (according to the Lost Coast Outpost).

One of the people interviewed in the video said 150 people protested against the vaxx mandates in Fortuna.

So, were these same people protesting the other 10 required vaccines before Covid?

A “funny” aside. Just read an article about a anti-vaxx group down in Los Gatos. They are also anti-LBGTQ. I guess if you want to save time, why not just toss in another crackpot idea with another? Covid has been so politicized.

So… I was the woman interviewed at this event yesterday.

First of all~
It’s important to state… that we are not a minority. This has been stated over and over in media and is simply not the case.

This movement is growing as there are more and more people questioning the efficacy of the vaccines.

Resuming class is only under threat because we are creating this.
Kids deserve to have a healthy childhood… free of mandates to wear masks that impair their breathing~ and vaccines that are causing a ton of adverse reactions, including death.

If you look at the numbers~
Things do not add up.

The vaccines do not work.
Simple as that.

As I stated in the interview, if you don’t believe me… take a look at what’s happening in Israel. Case and point.

The obligation I have to society is to protect our human rights.
People saying that people not vaccinating are selfish~ are in fact trying to impose their beliefs on others.
If you want to participate, and receive experimental vaccinate~
Do as you wish.
But for anyone to try to tell me that I’m being selfish or irresponsible for choosing to care for my incredible body by eating healthy food, getting exercise and trusting that my high functioning immune system can handle this… is out of their mind.

I, like many, will not vaccinate.
I like many, have had Covid and have antibodies. Natural Immunity is far superior to the artificial antibodies provided by vaccinations that are causing unthinkable harm.

There are many people having horrible reactions from the vaccines, and dying!
This is being under reported on…
Because why? Vaccine companies don’t make money off us taking care of our health… they make money by keeping us sick and giving us their “medicines”.

Follow the money and you’ll have all the answers you need.

I’m super curious how our precious Humboldt community became so brainwashed and complaisant.
This is the real crime.
This is what we should be scared of.

Take off your masks… Smile. Laugh.
Show each other some love.

We are all in this together and MUST unite over the abominations of our constitution… our freedoms… and human rights.

Blessings and love to each and everyone of you. Especially those consumed by fear and spreading hate… you need extra love.
❤️

The planned walkout was about the students in the entire state of California being MANDATED to get vaccinated in order to go to school. I believe the commenter was stating that supporters of the walkout on Monday Oct 18, 2021 (against mandating covid-19 vaccines in children in order for them to attend school) are not a minority and the entire movement is gaining support daily as more and more people are learning and hearing about it, whether they are vaxxed or un-vaxxed. Humboldt county vaccination rates do NOT apply to this comment, as she is speaking about our entire state. Also, many vaccinated individuals are NOT in support of mandating the vaccine. So for either of you to make a claim of “minority” or “majority” of California state residents being in favor OR opposed to the vaccine mandate being imposed upon our children is incorrect. There is no true way to calculate such claims….nor does it matter. You either support government making our medical choices for us and the mandate of covid-19 vaccines for the entire population, or you stand up for personal medical freedom of choice and don’t support the mandate. Vaxxed or unvaxxed, it’s mandate or not. It’s black and white…there is no grey area to choose from on this one.

My son lives near a charter school. All the children are wearing a mask. Same with a Christian school up the hill. The parents of these children seem to think it’s a good idea. If your children go to a public school it’s their rules not yours. Home schooling is an option, which is a good idea. as far as I’m concerned. And if you have time on a Monday to protest you have time to home school your children. And you didn’t finish saying where all these reported deaths and people having horrible reactions occurred or who reported them. Why is that?

Why is it that the Anti-mandaters are misusing VAERS data?

Don’t they know?

VAERS WAS CREATED THROUGH MANDATES!!!!!

😂😂😂😂

The first major vaccine hesitancy movement arose in the 1970s, when some people became concerned that there might be a connection between a rare brain injury and the whooping cough vaccine. This idea was false—there was no link between the brain injury and the vaccine—but the conversation about it caught Congress’s attention, and Congress issued mandates for the monitoring of vaccine effects. Those mandates led to the creation of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS.

This system is still in use today, and it has ended up being a major source of misinformation related to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Because anyone can post a report to VAERS and the reports are not fact-checked, people have misused the system to create false reports meant to shore up conspiracy theories related to the COVID-19 vaccines.

As kids across the country settle into the rhythm of outbreaks and school closures during the second pandemic school year, a staggering number of children are having to do so without their parents or caregivers. A study in the academic journal Pediatrics, published Friday, found that more than 140,000 children lost caregivers or parents to COVID-19 between April 2020 and June 2021. CDC epidemiologist Susan Hillis, a lead author of the study, told NPR that that number has risen to roughly 175,000 today. Making this more heartbreaking is the uneven way the affliction has been felt by Black, Latino, and indigenous children.

As White House tries to finalize vaccine mandate, dozens of groups seek last-minute meetings
(snip)

Those who have had or requested meetings with Labor Department and OMB officials so far include industry groups such as the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA), the Corn Refiners Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Retail Federation; companies such as Walt Disney and auto conglomerate Stellantis; the AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest union federation; and conservative think tanks like the Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity and the Ethics and Public Policy Center.
Representatives from multiple industry groups said in interviews that they had expressed concerns to federal officials about the potential for the coming vaccine requirements to exacerbate the economic woes caused by supply chain issues and labor shortages.
Many are searching for vaccine mandate loopholes. These are the people trying to stop them.
“The overwhelming majority of respondents said to us this is going to negatively impact their businesses and their ability to retain employees,” said Kevin McKenney, director of government affairs at the NLBMDA.
