Press release from the CHP:

[Two occupants in a 2017 Jeep Cherokee] were traveling northbound on West Rd west of [Zahadoom] Way at an unknown speed, when for an unknown reason [the driver] lost control of [the vehicle], causing [it] to travel off the the roadway and collide with a tree. Due to the force of the collision [the Jeep] caught fire. Passing motorist assisted [the passenger] from the vehicle but due to the flames in the vehicle intensifying they were unable to get [the driver] out of the vehicle.

Redwood Valley Fire personnel arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire, [the driver] sustained fatal injuries from the collision and [the passenger] sustained major injuries.

The collision is still under investigation and the identity of [the driver] is being withheld until their identity is [confirmed] and the family is notified by the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office.

Thank you to the passing motorist that managed to pull the passenger out of that fireball. An act of courage and kindness! I am so sorry the the driver was not as lucky. Condolences to his family and friends.

A hug thank you to the passing motorist that stopped and managed to get the passenger out of the vehicle. Courage and kindness! Sad they were unable to get the driver out in time. May he RIP. Condolences to his family and friends.

It’s too bad the passing motorist wasn’t named. Such courage should be celebrated and applauded. A good citizen did want to be involved, and in a most risky manner. Bravo to you!

Yes I also want to thank the People Who helped the passenger Every time I think there’s no there’s no decent people left people like that step forward forward and restore My belief there are good people out there
