About 11:30 a.m., a fire started spreading in the area of Chambers Road off of Mattole Road near Petrolia in Southern Humboldt. With windy conditions, the flames moved quickly through the grass. According to the scanner, firefighters were concerned about a threat to structures in the area. Aircraft and numerous ground resources were dispatched to the scene.

According to scanner traffic, the fire began to peter out when it pushed against a dirt road in the area.

Fire Captain Specialist Tran Beyea of Cal Fire said that the Incident Commander said the fire was now under control. Aircraft are being released but some ground resources are still responding to the fire.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE: According to Fire Captain Specialist Tran Beyea of Cal Fire, all resources were canceled except for one engine. We did hear a request for another engine later. But the fire continues to be under control.

No surprise with burn ban lifted yesterday, unfortunately expect to see more of these as the winds pick up inland.

PLEASE folks wait til after this next storm system to do burn piles, the ground needs more time to saturate and the water table to hopefully rise.

Lift the burn ban and boom another fire starts to spread. Once again, a big thank you to Cal Fire for jumping on this quickly and stopping it. It is still not really wet enough to start fires. Please wait until there is more rain before starting fire to your burn piles, and PLEASE follow Cal Fire recommendations to be sure you are permitted and safe.
