Vehicle Stolen in Shasta County With Child Inside; Child Later Found Safe in the Abandoned Vehicle
This is a press release from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Friday, October 15, 2021 at approximately 0635 hours, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) notified the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office about a stolen vehicle report, which occurred on the 12100 block of Cinder Road, Redding. CHP officers advised there was a 3-year-old juvenile in the vehicle when it was stolen from the location. The juvenile was left in the vehicle while the mother, Katrina Bishop (27 years old), went inside to change clothing. When Bishop exited her residence, the vehicle was seen leaving the area driven by an unknown suspect.
Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and began the investigation of the kidnapping. Deputies canvassed the area, notified neighboring agencies, and requested CHP Air Operations to assist with the search. At 0709 hours, a citizen called SHASCOM to report he located an unattended juvenile within a vehicle which matched the description of the stolen vehicle in the area of Leona Avenue and Pine Grove Avenue, Shasta Lake. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed it was the stolen vehicle and located the juvenile safe and in good health. A neighborhood canvass was conducted near the area where the vehicle was located for any additional information on the suspects of the vehicle theft and kidnapping. The investigation is on-going and being investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.
The juvenile was reunited with parents after they were interviewed regarding the incident. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office strongly discourages leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for any reason.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Redding Police Department, California Highway Patrol Air Operations, and CalFire for their assistance in this incident. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with further information regarding this incident to call SHASCOM at (530)245-6540.

No charges for the mother?
You never ran back inside after the baby puked on your shirt?
Your right of course. We don’t know what the circumstances were, could have been a lot of different things. Like I said, that woman went thru plenty
I’m sure she want to it again, however, we punish criminal behavior as a deterrent to others.
Yeah, they should lock her up and take away her kid.
Exactly ! I’m guilty of that a couple times , a long time ago but I’m sure glad I didn’t get humbled so hard as she has, and then blasted all over the internet for it. I guarantee she feels awful and will never let it happen again. She is traumatized I’m sure and the community backlash isn’t going to help anything.
Puke and worse, but not with the car running, I live in town.
We dont leave ANYTHING in our car while in the house. Much less OUR BABY! Give me a break!
Take the seats, rear view mirror, gas and brake pedal, shifter? That’s a little extreme.
WTF?
The parents must have been so freaked out. Glad the child was found safe. . Did she make a bad decision, yes she did. But I don’t know her and what kind of mother she is. She got punished plenty by all the worry and guilt she must have put herself thru.
I assumed she is generally a good mother. Law is not just about punishment. The threat of legal consequences deters unwanted behavior.
Do you disagree with this law?
California Vehicle Code 15620 states that it is illegal to leave a child six years of age or younger unattended in a motor vehicle without the supervision of someone who is 12 years or older when: there are conditions that present a significant risk to the child’s health or safety, and when the vehicle’s engine is running and/or the vehicle’s key is in the ignition.
I would have appreciated if the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office had included in their thanks to other agencies to remind parents that in the State of California it is against the law to leave a child alone in a vehicle unattended, even in your own driveway.
Was this another case of the car running with out an operatior present also?
One would assume she left the car running, although the article doesn’t say.
Though this is from awhile back I wanna put something.
I knew this lady, she did infact get her daughter taken away after this, she was on drugs and had also poured boiling water on her daughter at one point.
The kid lives with her grandparents now.
