Detectives Investigating Covelo Home Thought to be Connected with the Killing of Man Found in an Abandoned Vehicle Recently

Homicide Investigation Feature IconOn Sunday, October 3, 2021, a Fish and Wildlife Game Warden found an abandoned vehicle on Mendocino Pass Road and located a dead, decomposing body in the trunk. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department later determined the body belonged to an out-of-the-area man who was the victim of a homicide.

Yesterday and today, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office detectives have been actively serving a search warrant on a home on Covelo’s Henderson Lane that Captain Greg Van Patten said is thought to be connected “with the homicide in Covelo involving the deceased male in the trunk of the vehicle.”

Captain Van Patten told us the detectives were unable to finish processing the scene right away so, he said, “We held the location overnight and will resume scene processing today.”

A Round Valley resident told us approximately twenty undercover vehicles and twenty officers are at the residence and forensics teams appear to be digging up the yard.

Investigators have had to travel to “locations outside of Mendocino County,” Captain Van Patten said, in efforts to solve the crime.

Earlier this week Captain Van Patten characterized the investigation into the homicide as “time-consuming” because of its complexity and the fact the circumstances surrounding the man’s death seem to be a “body dump type of murder.”

Information regarding the victim was slow to emerge after its initial discovery to its advanced state of decomposition and though the victim has been identified, Captain Van Patten said earlier this week the next-of-kin had yet to be notified.

Yeah they all start talking eventually…some it takes longer than others. Problem being if someone speaks the truth are they heard?
Does anyone follow up.

Violence, drugs and quality of life here have only gotten worse. I’m worried for the future and safety of the honest people. Mendocino county as a whole will soon feel the tension as the industry slowing dwindles away. I never thought back in the day that cannabis wouldn’t be profitable. I know a lot of farmers on the traditional market pushing everything they can get ready for 150-200. Time to get a different career folks be safe.

Except Humboldt produce is going for $1800 (indoor) for Chicago conaseures, and light dep is at 1200-1400 on the east coast. Don’t think for a second you are going to make bank on the local flooded California (west coast) market! You have to take it across RICO boundaries to reap any profits. Pretty much as it’s ALWAYS been. At least until Federal regulations are changed for interstate commerce. Then it’s a whole new game. Out of money? Been spending all your past buckaroos on travel, Disneyland and crap? I have no sympathy for youz.

It is an excellent strategy to haul marijuana, especially extremely large quantites, across state lines. The more states the better. Add in some fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine to receive extra kudos and money from the street industry folk. The feds go easy on interstate infractions.

Indoor???? With the State cracking down on gas and diesel small engines (think generators) and PG&E going through the roof. Good luck.

Do be sure to have your contact’s number in your phone or written down in the glove box. Don’t forget to fire up a hooter east of Richfield, because there’s no cops for the next 120 desolate miles–right? After the trial and during your assessment period, If you’ve caught a D.U.I. in the past that will cost you 2 pts. off your Salient Score for an extra 16 months, and that’s before they get to your prior bust. Pack large, stack it to the roof so they can knock off two more points on your severity score. Oh yeah!!! Whoa and I almost forgot, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get special parole when they decide to release you. In the system that’s infamously known as “Life on the installment plan”.

Well..

At least someone is FINALLY ***DIGGING UP THE YARD*** of a suspected murderer. Yes! I so hope this becomes a standard in the entire area when there is any kind of reasonable suspicion. Might find a few more missing women in particular and give some closure to families.
