2 Deaths, 0 Hospitalizations, 48 New Cases Reported Today

COVID DEATHPress release from the County of Humboldt:

Humboldt County Public Health reported two deaths from COVID-19 today, one person in their 70s and one person over the age of 80. One hundred and eight county residents have died from the virus. Staff in the Department Operations Center extend their condolences to the family, friends and caregivers of those who died.

Forty-eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, bringing to 8,985 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. No new hospitalizations were reported today.

As of Tuesday, Humboldt County Public Health and other local vaccinators have administered a total of 156,359 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Local vaccination data has been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard (humboldtgov.org/dashboard). Highlights include:

  • Since the last weekly report on Oct. 6, 886 vaccine doses have been administered and 548 additional residents have completed their vaccine series.
  • A total of 78,236 residents, or nearly 66% of the vaccine-eligible population age 12 and older, are fully vaccinated.
  • Just over 72% of the vaccine-eligible population has received at least one dose.

Humboldt County continues to be designated as an area of high COVID-19 transmission by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Residents — particularly those who are unvaccinated — are urged to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.

No-cost testing is available through OptumServe seven days a week at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. Mobile testing sites are scheduled throughout the county most weekdays. For more information about testing, go to humboldtgov.org/covidtestregistration.

The county’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Appointments for Public Health vaccination clinics are not required but are recommended due to an increase in demand for additional doses and boosters. Sign up in advance at MyTurn.ca.gov. For instructions in English and Spanish on how to use My Turn, go to humboldtgov.org/VaccineInfo.

Due to high demand for vaccination appointments, hours for the Arcata High School vaccination clinic on Thursday have been expanded, and the clinic will now be open from 4 to 7 p.m.

. If you got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as your first COVID-19 shot, a booster dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine apparently could produce a stronger immune response than a second dose of J&J’s vaccine. That’s the finding of a highly anticipated study released Wednesday.

And if you started out with either Pfizer or Moderna, it probably doesn’t matter that much, the research suggests, as long as you get one of the two mRNA vaccines as a booster. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/10/13/1045485935/study-of-covid-vaccine-boosters-suggests-moderna-or-pfizer-works-best

There can be no friendship where there is cruelty, where there is disloyalty, where there is injustice. And in places where the wicked gather there is conspiracy only, not companionship: these have no affection for one another; fear alone holds them together; they are not friends, they are merely accomplices.

Anybody else notice the case rise? Yesterday people were calling it the lamedemic saying “it’s only 5”. Well guess what, today its 48. Not so lame today is it.

One thing for sure, the Humboldt County Supervisors would rather waste resources on testing employees of the County who refuse to be vaccinated, rather than saving money by requiring County Employees to be vaccinated.

It would have set a good example, for all the foolish people who think they are smarter than the Health Officer.

The Supervisors are unfit for service, and they are throwing away your tax money…

They all should be recalled.

I am going to back away now. Cause you about to cause an uproar. People still be commenting to you in the last article .you done be a lighting rod for sure. Should have let the employees vote, see where they stand on things, make it a secret vote so outsiders couldn’t try to interfere. Of course the voting machines are rigged and what with all the dead people voting, and all the votes will be miscounted. Yea the whole election would be rigged

Why are you even commenting here? You don’t live here. Why don’t you find a nice sf news blog where you can celebrate your local vaccine mandate for even going inside public buildings.

This is a free country with a wide diversity of communities. If the uptake of these vaccines and the fear level towards this virus are critical factors for you in choosing where to live then you are free to avoid this region of the country. There are plenty of communities that agree with your dream of forcing vaccines on everyone. You would probably be happier in one of them

TGIA:

Your attitude is noted.

There are un-vaccinated people everywhere, and the Pandemic is taking a breather, but, the damage to healthcare, government, the economy and society is significant.

We are floating towards 1,000,000 Americans slaughtered by this serious infectious disease, and, IMO, the push by misinformed and deluded persons to “not cooperate” with the other members of society by receiving a free vaccine, which may prevent their hospitalization and possible death, is pretty concerning!

When agencies of government pick up weapons and join the fight, that is VERY concerning…

People who live in Humboldt and beyond have economic, social, and health impacts on other areas… If you travel, you can spread your own health conditions into the general population of your state, which contains 40,000,000 people…

Take a minute to consider yourself a part of something larger! Your impact on everyone else is significant also.

You may not want to be vaccinated, and the idea that you will need to be vaccinated to participate in society and the general economy, may be repulsive to you…

Soon, you won’t be able to go into a restaurant, a bar, possibly, a grocery store or get on a plane, stay in a hotel, or, anything at all, without electronic, verifiable proof of vaccination!

So THAT will probably make you even more hostile towards everyone else!

Not everyone sleeps every night in Humboldt County, but rest assured that I am not really all that far away.

Also, TGIA, your disaffection for everyone else shows a climate of hatred, social affective disorder, and behavioral health disorders as a constellation of mental health conditions, which are daily exhibited on these pages…

Hatred of outsiders, other people, and society as a whole, is called pathology, and yours appears to be marked.

My last word to you:

Encourage your supervisors, with written and spoken opinion, to do the right thing, to lead without vacillation, and to set a healthy example for the people of your county.

I refuse to live there until the folks in charge are replaced by some folks who are not corrupt, incompetent, affected overly with nepotism, and completely on the wrong path.

The Humboldt County Supervisors have lost their way, maybe never were moral enough or qualified in any way, to do their job!

For it is a job! An elected position! They are supposed to act with the welfare of the county in mind, and you, should too!

Deal with your hostility. Don’t expect me to STFU, because, I probably won’t back down from this.

Wake up Humboldt! The pandemic isn’t over!

Get vaccinated. Do it today!

Your daily glee displayed that others will be forced into a medical procedure they do not want is disturbing. Combined with the common misconception by you and other strict vaccine fundamentalists that anyone who is unvaccinated is actively ill is evidence of a serious detachment from our shared reality.

You casually dispense insults here daily, to people in a community you state clearly that you do not wish to be a part of. We all know that the angry ex health care worker named vmg wants everyone to get vaccinated and delights in his belief that any holdouts will be forced into it some day. You’ve made that clear. No one cares. I promise you that you have not delivered a single hesitant deltoid to the needle.

I may just write my supervisor though with a note of encouragement for their recent choice along with encouragement to go further and stop this madness. If it will keep folks like you, with your appetite for forced injections by the state, away from my community then I can only consider that the greatest achievement of this boards tenure

Yes,

I did notice that, e fox.

Probably something to do with the county sort of taking the day off.
But if you average it with yesterday, it’s 26.5, and has still come down 1/6 from this weekend’s average of 33.

Let’s hope the trend continues.

Let’s not forget, it’s case positivity ratio, not just cases that
determine which way this is going.

I wish they would mention it, or at least the number of tests, when they mention the number of positives.

Otherwise case counts alone are less meaningful.

The number of tests varies considerably.

I never said it was lame though, so maybe your comment was directed elsewhere.

I did mention the cases were down to five, so I figured I should acknowledge you, that they had risen to 48.

Let’s hope that, all things being relative, the case count for tomorrow will be well below 40.

40 for tomorrow, would just be staying on par for three days, compared to the weekend.

You also didn’t come in here and drop “lamedemic”thinking you are cute, then scurry away. Saying that is an insult to those who have died or been hospitalized from COVID-19. Starting to think there is a portion of humanity that doesn’t care as long as it doesn’t effect them. At least you bother to read the article not just come here and make some off the wall comment

You don’t need a booster to protect against covid if you got two shots of Moderna. Pfizer and J&J aren’t nearly as effective beyond 6 months.

Sure, no one “needs” to avoid getting sick or spreading disease just because they are more afraid of a vaccine millions of others have had than they are of disease that millions of others have had. One just “likes” not being sick.

Vaccines save lives and slow covid’s spread. Please get vaccinated. But the Biden Administration is using covid to advance their fascist totalitarian agenda and that must be prevented with all our abilities if we’re to have any semblance of the America we love after Joe’s gone. This isn’t a liberal vs conservative fight, it’s the self appointed elite autocrats vs us 99% freedom loving patriots. Please don’t sacrifice our great country bickering over partisan politics.

Even if that is true, it is only because anti vaxxers weaponized vaccines, a medical issue not a political one, with lies, hatred and utter insanity. Only an irrational person would threaten send death threats to medical doctors because they say vaccination can save lives. Only irrational people see themselves as “99% freedom loving patriots” because they refuse vaccination. As if only a tyrannical government would be trying to save lives. It is like living with a bunch of thirteen year olds who see their parents as tyrants and sctpream they hate them when parents tell their kids to clean their rooms, don’t throw dirty cloths on the floor or they can’t stay out until midnight partying with their other friends.

Pretty sure squirrel has claimed to be vaccinated. I think their claim about 99% patriots was meant to refer to people who oppose mandates. Clearly 99% would be hyperbolic if that interpretation is correct

So are you. By misrepresenting the facts you see you can transfer covid also. Sorry that one seems to boggle the mind. So simple a 5 year old could understand.

The shot only makes you get less sick. It’s unfortunate. I honestly wish it worked better.

We are not as evil and twisted conspiracy theory wing nuts you try to paint us out to be so you can win your argument. It’s kinda obvious.

Its annoying when people put words in your mouth or exaggerate truths to discredit someone or something. Lots of bs argumenting.

Well it certainly is a five year old’s thinking. Hello! Getting “less sick” is a vaccine working. Talk about obvious.

If anti vaxxers were so absolutely sure their personal immune system was going to protect them, they wouldn’t care if others suggested that they shouldn’t be treated in a hospital when they get sick with covid. They would be sure it would never happen. The reality is that they just think it is unlikely they personally will pay a price and actually prefer other get sick or die than they submit to “voodoo” (otherwise known as science to more rational people). But they are equally angry if it is even hinted that their choice has consequences. It’s all, every bit of it, about their rights and nothing about their obligations.

If you feel disrespected because you are being coerced, you might just try doing less of it yourself.

This is a common error in thinking that the vaccine cult makes. Everyone unvaccinated is, in many of their minds, both currently infected with this virus and inevitably going to die from it.

Neither of these things are true. In reality there will be unvaccinated among the general population forever and over 99% of the currently unvaccinated in our community will be here, alive and well, a year from now

“It would be better to get the virus and recover and have amazing immunity,” Rogan said on the podcast. “You know what I think you should do? I think you should get vaccinated and then get sick. This is why: because then you got the vaccine protects you from a bad infection and then you get COVID so then you get the robust immunity that’s imparted from having the actual disease itself.”

That’s a reasonable point and is why we should have had all restrictions lifted once the vaccine was widely available for a couple months. Then all the vaccinated could get the benefit of this robust double immunity and get the mass die off of the unvaccinated that they seem to wish for

And then you will not be a transmission risk. Until infection imparts the protection it may convey, all will be potential transmission risks.

The lowest risk of transmission will be associated with reinfection, from the already recovered, to the already recovered, vaccinated or not.

Off topic I know but this is 2 funny. Capitol rioter who allegedly smoked weed in a senator’s office on Jan. 6 decided to represent himself in court on Tuesday—and it went exactly as badly as could have been expected. Washington, D.C. news network WUSA reports that the wild hearing opened with a judge advising Brandon Fellows against representing himself, but he ignored that warning and went on to bolster the case against him by admitting to two new felonies. Lets Go Brandon!

To those of you thinking it’s all a government conspiracy. While microchips aren’t being put in vaccines, they are frequently disguised as crackers or shredded wheat squares, or even enlarged into a 16-inch Sicilian pizza crust. Terrifying though it is to contemplate, the government has been tracking your every move since your birth using your SS number. A secret late 2000s study found that up to 95% of the people you interact with are informing the government of your every move. The CIA gained intimate access to your development by detaining your parents at a black site and pretending to be them for decades.
