3 Hospitalizations, 99 New Cases Reported Since Friday
Press release from the County of Humboldt:
Ninety-nine new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Humboldt County since the most recent report Friday, bringing to 8,932 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. Three new hospitalizations were also reported, including one person in their 60s and two people in their 70s.
Since Friday, 202 doses of vaccine were administered at Public Health’s mobile vaccination clinics. Health officials continue to urge all eligible members of the community to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
As always, the county’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Appointments for Public Health vaccination clinics are not required but are recommended due to a significant increase in demand for additional doses and boosters. Sign up in advance at MyTurn.ca.gov. For instructions in English and Spanish on how to use My Turn, go to humboldtgov.org/VaccineInfo.

Pfizer is authorized for those 12 and older, and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for people age 18 and older. County residents age 16 and 17 can receive a vaccination at Public Health clinics without a parent or guardian physically present as long as they have a signed consent form. Children under 16 still must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Residents, particularly unvaccinated individuals, are urged to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus. No-cost testing is available through OptumServe seven days a week at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. Mobile testing sites are scheduled throughout the county most weekdays. NEW YORK (AP) — Southwest Airlines canceled close to 2,000 flights over the weekend, blaming the woes on air traffic control issues and weather. Don’t go any further. They are crap.

At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days (Fig. 1). In fact, the trend line suggests a marginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people. Notably, Israel with over 60% of their population fully vaccinated had the highest COVID-19 cases per 1 million people in the last 7 days. The lack of a meaningful association between percentage population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases is further exemplified, for instance, by comparison of Iceland and Portugal. Both countries have over 75% of their population fully vaccinated and have more COVID-19 cases per 1 million people than countries such as Vietnam and South Africa that have around 10% of their population fully vaccinated.
Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2947 counties in the United States.
Subramanian’s paper, which was published in the ââpeer-reviewed European Journal of Epidemiology, simply examines the lack of correlation between broad geographies’ vaccination rates and their rates of new COVID cases. For example, Subramanian points to countries like Israel, which have high rates of both vaccination and new infections. The parents of the child, other than the actual doctor of the child, have all the medical information about the situation. If they don’t appear to believe that the vaccine is problematic, then it is a valid argument to make that the people closest and most knowledgeable about a situation are not accusing the vaccine.
That the child died, post vaccination, defies all validity of any argument, that the vaccination, or the parents, cannot be held in any way, responsible.
That they believe for whatever reasons, thus is not the case, is in no way, evidence of the safety or effectiveness of the vaccines, and should not be used in any way, as evidence of safety, or effectiveness.

In no way do I want to imply I know the cause. I’m just saying that there are other reasons than the vaccine that the youth might have died.
And, even if it was proved that one youth died because of this vaccine , and that would be horrifically tragic and heartbreaking for the family, the reality is that we can see that those dying of COVID-19 are overwhelmingly non vaccinated. Yes, some vaccinated people do die. But they die when they are more frail on average than those who are non vaccinated. Their age at death is much higher here in Humboldt County than the age of those who died unvaccinated.
The vaccine ups your odds. And provides a shield to stop the virus from spreading among all those you might infect if you did get ill.
Wearing a seatbelt overwhelmingly gives you better odds of surviving a crash. Occasionally, a seatbelt can contribute to someone not safely escaping a crash. The odds are still better with the seatbelt and with the vaccine.
