Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Forty additional cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, bringing to 8,595 the total number of county residents who have tested positive. Two new hospitalizations were also reported, including one person in their 30s and one person in their 70s.

Since the last weekly data update on Sept. 24, the county has recorded 243 new cases. Five deaths have been reported in that time, including one death of a fully vaccinated individual.

Of the 14 hospitalizations reported over the last seven days, one was fully vaccinated, 12 were unvaccinated and one is under investigation. Age ranges of reported hospitalizations are as follows:

  • 1 person in their 20s
  • 3 people in their 30s
  • 2 people in their 40s
  • 1 person in their 50s
  • 2 people in their 60s
  • 2 people in their 70s
  • 3 people over the age of 80.

The graph below depicts average weekly case rates in unvaccinated and fully vaccinated local residents.

Chart showing case rates (per 100K) since December 2020 with the unvaccinated case rate at 21, vaccinated at zero. Unvaccinated case rates climb to 29 in January, down as low as three in April, then up to 26 in mid-May, while vaccinated case rates never exceeded two. On June 15, when COVID restrictions were lifted, the unvaccinated case rate was 13 and vaccinated case rate was zero. Then by mid-July, cases for everyone began to climb. On August 7, a local mask mandate was put back into place requiring all individuals over the age of 2 to wear a facial covering in public indoor settings and crowded outdoor settings. The local case rate for unvaccinated people declined from a high of 83 residents per 100,000 to 34, while the case rate for fully vaccinated individuals has declined for a fifth consecutive week to 8.

As the graph illustrates, case numbers continue to decline in both vaccinated and unvaccinated residents, though the case rates for both groups remain high. The seven-day average case rate for fully vaccinated individuals is 8 per 100,000 residents, while the rate for unvaccinated people is 34 per 100,000. See the case rate graph for a more detailed depiction. While case rates have decreased significantly from their peak, hospitalizations continue to be at the highest rates they have been, double what they were in the winter and spring.

Public Health officials encourage community members to continue to mask and follow other precautions that are proven to reduce transmission, including testing for the virus.

Residents experiencing symptoms or who have been in close contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to get tested. No-cost testing is available through OptumServe seven days a week at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka and at mobile testing sites throughout the county each weekday. To make an appointment, visit lhi.care/covidtesting or call 888-634-1123. Both rapid and PCR tests are available at Public Health mobile vaccination clinics, where residents have the option of getting tested, vaccinated or both. As always, testing and vaccination services are provided free of charge.

Due to an increase in demand for additional doses and boosters, appointments at Public Health vaccination clinics are strongly recommended but not required. Sign up in advance at MyTurn.ca.gov. For instructions in English and Spanish on how to use My Turn, go to humboldtgov.org/VaccineInfo.

In other vaccine news, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced today plans to require all K-12 students be vaccinated against COVID-19 once the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fully approves the vaccine for children.

The state will require students to be vaccinated for in-person learning by the beginning of the first school term after the vaccine is approved for their age group. In an announcement today, the governor’s office said the requirement will be implemented in two phases based on grade level, first in grades 7-12 followed by grades K-6. The state anticipates the requirement would apply to the first group starting in July 2022 based on current projections but could be implemented as soon as January 2022 if the FDA grants full approval sooner.

The state will also put in place a requirement for staff to be vaccinated with the first group and will no longer allow the option of regular testing. For more information, read the news release from the governor’s office at gov.ca.gov/2021/10/01/california-becomes-first-state-in-nation-to-announce-covid-19-vaccine-requirements-for-schools/.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a potential leap forward in the global fight against the pandemic, drugmaker Merck said Friday that its experimental pill for people sick with COVID-19 reduced hospitalizations and deaths by half.

If cleared by regulators, it would be the first pill shown to treat COVID-19, adding a whole new, easy-to-use weapon to an arsenal that already includes the vaccine.

The company said it will soon ask health officials in the U.S. and around the world to authorize the pill’s use. A decision from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration could come within weeks after that, and the drug, if it gets the OK, could be distributed quickly soon afterward. AP News 10/1/21

That’s good news. A new drug with plenty of profit potential might not be immediately be denounced.

More and more people getting vaccinated. Weren’t we only 50% rate a month or two ago but now 65%? And it’s helping – fewer cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Keep it up people! More vaccinations will alleve our overcrowded medical system and save lives. The school kids are all getting the vaccine shots so they’ve got to be safe.

They do if they’re going to public school – or the parents can home school them.

we are not all in this together.

There are the bureaucrats, the oligarchs and then the rest of us.

Remember when gas shortages in the 70s alternated license plates for which days you could fill your tank.

Maybe we need to remind the well paid bureaucrats that they work for the people.

There is a strategic plan to take down the US economy, just like they did to Russia in the 80s and 90s.

The covid boondoggle is just a part of a bigger operation.

Think like a sociopath or a,psychopath for a while, and you will begin to see things differently.

How does one optout and take their money elsewhere?

I’m curious what you would think about whether public schools should allow students to wear a niqab or burka.

That would fall under “dress code” and not under “health mandate”. Two different animals, IMO.

Interesting. Banning religious garb is not discrimination but requiring a behavior to increase school safety is.
The point is public school is a service. Utilizing that service comes with certain rules. For those unwilling to abide by those rules, the state funds an alternative option (charter home school).

The sharp drop in case rates is good news. It would be useful to have hospitalizations and deaths shown as well.

Way to be a movment for people.

0.2% mortality rate. That’s a sure bet 998/1000 times. You must not understand probabilities. Still here; alive and unvaccinated, despite what you well wishers are hoping for. 🤔

For the seven-day average of new cases locally, there were about eight vaxxed new cases daily per 100,000, and an average of 34 unvaxxed new daily cases per 100,000. One of the five deaths and two of the 14 hospitalizations over the past week were in the fully vaxxed. (According the the North Coast Journal).

The FDA defines vaccines as drugs. Definitions vary, but it’s just semantics.

Not “the vaccine.” All vaccines. Again, that is by one definition and it is just semantics.

So the exacerbation of depression symptoms, after vaccination, or a contraindication of mRNA vaccination with SSRI’s, in children, isn’t real?

It seems like a true blue tin foil hat site could have come up with something much, much, juicier than an incidence of 4 in 1300ish for significantly increased serious depression symptoms for children taking SSRI’s, don’t you think?

It’s hardly an outlandish claim.

I researched that. Apparently so.
I guess they don’t even fact check the sources of the claims made on their site.

I had no idea.

I actually looked at their reasoning. It didn’t seem that far fetched. Pretty solid actually. You?

Pfizer is basing their safety claim on a 30 day post second dose study, that normally would require 1 to 4 years.

Seems a little hasty to me.

Doctors crack me up, overdoses are up this year by 100,000, doctor claims addicts are Overdosing because they are misinformed about the covid vaccine, that about sums up doctors , crack me up. Wouldn’t be because of all the panickers and drama stressing out a low stress tolerance person that turned to drugs to escape reality, or because you changed most routines that most people live and die by, cracks me up, come on doctors ,take a better look at how people live. People don’t go to work or shop so the druggie begging for money gets nothing, not hard to figure out, all because of misinformed about vaccine ,bs, ridiculousness, a addict could careless about reality.
