About 3 a.m. a vehicle went off Briceland Road and struck a power pole between Shop Road and Seely Road and landed on its roof. The power pole collapsed into the roadway and then, within minutes, the vehicle caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames. Soon, fire spread from the incident into surrounding vegetation.

Power was out to just under 1000 residents in the area for multiple hours.

According to Wendy Kornberg, Briceland Fire Department arrived on the scene quickly. “Super grateful to our bad ass volunteer fire department and the law enforcement units that were in the scene incredibly fast, getting this fire under control,” she wrote in a post on her Facebook page. “I can only imagine how badly this COULD have gone if the volunteer fire department hadn’t been super on top of things.”Smoke rising from fire along the Briceland Thorn Road after a single vehicle crashed into a power pole. She added, “And on that note, PLEASE pay your fire stipend property tax (it’s less than $100) and consider donating a little extra. These people saved all the homesteads up Barley Hill and Shop Road, and as fast as fire moves in this still dry weather, possibly many others along Briceland road as well.”

Please consider donating to your local fire departments.
