A “part-time” GM…

What do they expect to pay this “highly qualified” MBA/Grant-Writer?

At the Mateel, they specialize in “small-think”… When they are not working on “hiding the cash”…

I hear Harry Jasper is looking…

The unsubstantiated “hiding the cash” accusation is getting tired. How about you back up your claim with some facts!

Was a full accounting made public? If so, link up and show everyone that there was no “hiding the cash”.

Hey Stars. I don’t have an issue about the “cash” and how the MCC spent it. I know some decisions, in hindsight were ill advised. But I have no concern about graft, corruption or any intentional diversion of funds.
If you or others have a concern, then pursue it yourself. Or convince a media entity that it’s a story worth researching. The burden is on you. The MCC is innocent until proven guilty!

That’s one way to look at it…

If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it…

Like at Jerold Phelps: If you start over, but retain the same people, why would you expect a different result…?

Accountability is everything, in an NPO, and it’s up to the donors to control the actions of the organization, by giving, or by not giving.

Real NPO’s serve a mission, and are supposed to be following a set of standards… When malfeasance occurs, somebody is expected to own the actions.

It’s not up to anyone outside the NPO to prove anything at all, and the NPO should be operated honestly and accountibly.

I’m with “Mr Stars” here, lots of info was suppressed and ignored by the MCC, the persons in charge when the $500,000 or so was “misplaced” are mostly not in charge currently.

ROR was sold to an entity even more corrupt and incompetent, and now, plans are to resurrect and restock and get some “grants”… For what and from whom, I ask? Is there a committee to fund “giant river-polluting-3-day-drug-parties featuring archaic music and plenty of alcohol in beautiful rural locations”?

Sometimes the mission is indefensible!

When the Mateel fed the homeless, supported local artists and had a community mission, I called it remarkable, commendable…

Now, the MCC has some work to do to restore faith, build community confidence, and, instill the new mission… I hope the MCC can return to healthy operating status and re-learn to serve the community in a manner exemplary of a creditable NPO.

As far as “what happened to the money,” I guess we are all expected to just forget about it, but, the population should be expected to have a long memory, and, the organization should expect to work twice as hard to regain half the respect if formerly had.

I lived in Redway 5 years, worked at Jerold Phelps, and understand the thrall of incompetence, corruption and nepotism in SoHum and Humboldt County in general… It’s not my kind of place any more, but dont wait around for critics and detractors to just disappear like the funds did…

Time to start proving you are worthy.

Simply hiring someone new and then expecting that new person to show up with a “magic wand” or an ability to perform miracles with only rocks and sticks for tools is immature, misguided and facile…

It would serve the MCC to show accountability for past actions and to “make amends” as they say in AA, rather than being all defensive and confrontational.

Even JPH does not attempt to defend itself on these pages, and merely uses these pages to disseminate information and glean the temperature of the community…

NPO’s can be guided by the users, but they need to have a conscience. I certainly hope the MCC is able to account for its actions moving forward, and you would be better served by helping, instead of by using a public forum merely to stir up controversy.

Might be tough to find someone qualified to manage things who is also willing to be satisfied with as few as 5 hours of pay (and then work overtime when asked). Good luck.

People who agree to work for small non-profits aren’t usually looking for a career or expect much of a salary. I expect some well meaning retiree to take the position. I also expect them to soon get fed up with the level of dysfunction, and resign in disgust.

Kudos to the Mateel Board, Staff and the few dedicated volunteers who have steered the organization back to a place where hiring a new GM is possible!
The timing is good in that there are talented, local people who are no longer able to depend on cannabis for income and their focus. Let’s tell our capable friends about this opportunity to hone new skills and be hired for an important job that serves our community!
