Shasta McCloud Management Unit Cancels Fall Matsutake Season
In the interest of public safety, the fall Matsutake Mushroom season on the Shasta McCloud Management Unit in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest will not be open this year due to the Antelope Fire Closure, Mud and Ash Creek Closures, and unsafe conditions in the Antelope Fire area. Please adhere to all closure area guidelines.
“The Antelope Fire burned through a large area that encompassed some of the more popular Matsutake mushroom hunting grounds,” says David Wolfe Information Specialist for the Shasta McCloud Management Unit. “Due to the Antelope Fire Closure, Mud Creek and Ash Creek Closures and possibly unsafe conditions due to hazard trees and extremely dry conditions in or near the fire area, Unit Recreation staff haves decided for public safety to cancel the Matsutake season for the year.”
While the forest-area fire closures are in effect, all national forest lands, roads, and trails within the closure boundaries will remain closed to public access. Please visit the Shasta-Trinity and Klamath National Forests home web pages and social media sites for maps and information.
