Mendocino County Sheriff Deputies and Detectives Investigating Human Remains Along Highway 101 Near Covelo Road

Death Investigation Feature DrowningAfter a tip from a reader prompted an inquiry, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten has confirmed that deputies and detectives are currently on Highway 101 near the intersection to Highway 162 investigating “badly decomposed” human remains.

The reader told us the deputies and detectives were located on Highway 101 near mile marker 57 with a side road blocked. They reported the law enforcement personnel were “taking pictures of a scene over the side of the overpass.”

Captain Van Patten said the remains were confirmed to be human and described the area as a “possible homeless camp from appearance.” He said the remains appear to be male and do not have any clear signs of being scattered by animals.

Addressing whether there is anything to indicate the death could be of a suspicious nature, Captain Van Patten said it is currently “too early to tell.”

It is sad when a human body is found along a highway and law enforcement thinks that there may be nothing suspicious.

I’m not saying this is the case here but someone could have a heart attack or a drug overdose anywhere.

“Too early to tell” hardly means that, it means that it is too early to tell. It doesn’t say anything about what they may think.

Captain Van Patten … described the area as a “possible homeless camp from appearance.”

People die at home all the time, no matter if this happens to be your “home” for the moment.

Saddest part about death is most people never really live at all!
Why is death sad exactly. It is the final chapter and an essential chapter of life. Not any sadder birth; unless it is a young person or somebody who never really lived like a baby child or young person.

Without birth and death, and without the perpetual transmutation of all the forms of life, the world would be static, rhythm-less, undancing, mummified

Well, I’m probably the biggest losser but I sure as beep try to live, and not hurt my soul along the way. My mom used to say, ” Enjoy the moment, ” and go figure it took her death, to make me realize to be in the present. I still dwell on the past which isn’t the greatest neighborhood, and worry about the future which is another place wier my head doesn’t belong. However when I’m grateful in the moment, all my problems are first world, and I should only give praise for another day.

PS, Kym, I truly treated and treat you terrible , however when you express what you go through and confirm you are a human, it makes me really want to vomit on what an angry scum bag I truly am. Sorry for umpteenth time, and if I loose it again, I’ll retire my key board…

162 + 101 is a very remote area. Even if they were living under the bridges there it is very far from any type of food or services. They would have had to have had some kind of a contact, a bicycle, someone to transport them around to get food and other needs. Most homeless camps generally are within a few miles of services. Could it be any of the missing folks?
