Today, multiple vehicles suffered damage and had items stolen from them at the Fields Landing Boat Launch.

According to a reader, “I took my 80 year old father fishing along with my nephew this a.m.” He said they launched boats and began fishing, “only to be called over radio to be told multiple trucks had windows broken out and gone through.”

Multiple vehicles broken into at Fields Landing Boat LaunchThe reader said that he saw approximately six to nine trucks at the boat launch  including his own. “I know there were approximately 4-5 trucks that were together from Rohnert Park and or Santa Rosa [area],” he told us. “We could really use [their] fishing here to spend [their] money local. But now they probably will never come back.”

“Lucky, I was one of the fortunate with no damages,” he told us. “We did watch a shady guy from the water before we left toward the ocean. Maybe someone saw something?”

Leave your wallet on the seat and the door unlocked so they don’t break you window.

How bout leave nothing on the seat or in the car and always lock your car. This area has one of the highest vehicle thefts in the nation.

These people were from out of town and came to fish. They didn’t know any better. We need signs that Humboldt raises more than their fair share of thieves and that “This Boat Launch” is one of their training grounds for how fast they can break your window and toss your stuff.” Leave anything at your own risk….

My simple solution would work, but doesn’t fit within Kym’s rules. My second best idea is to bring back [edit]. Perhaps that’s not the solution, but the current way of addressing this (by ignoring it) is not working at all.

That’s what happens when transients are catered to by our California leftwing system.

You pretty sure these were transients? We have plenty of our own, homegrown thieves, murderers and tweakers that wouldn’t think twice about stealing your crap or killing you to get it.

My guess is an addict(s) looking to steal anything they might be able to sell or trade for a fix. Probably local or at least localish. I have seen a three-man team casing vehicles on the Samoa Peninsula at beach parking. There was a recent article, I think on this site, listing the local break-in hotspots.

Actually the homeless people living on the street have been more respectful and caring than the asshats that live in a house born and raised in southern humble I’ve seen some of the worst people in the world ….. I also know some of the very best

This is disturbing. 15 years of launching my boat there, frequently, and never had a problem. It seems safe enough in daylight hours. There’s always a lot of folks passing through; walking dogs, hanging by the waterfront.

And the fish counters and DFG wardens and whatever. Wouldn’t leave a rig there overnight though. And never leave anything of value in the truck.

“Transients,’ Jeffersonian? Hah! 75 percent of the population of Field’s Landing are tweakers. We usually see a couple tottering around on their way to bed, when we launch at first light.

I heard….. that this group was from out of town (Bay Area) and they came up and slept in their rigs so they could launch early in the AM in hopes of running for Tuna. (it’s what I heard) A few weeks ago 3 of us went up to Charleston and slept in the boats and trucks so we could launch and chase Tuna. The boat launches up in Oregon are amazing, with wash stations and security patrols. These poor people had no idea. They probably picked the shortest way to the Ocean. Thieves need to be caught and dealt with. It’s sad. I am glad you have been safe in the past. Stay safe- Pamlyn

How come the RWNJs aways complain about lame, shitty cops not being able to catch petty crooks. However , if the cops happen to kill someone , dangerous crook or not ,then the police are suddenly above reproach

I don’t know Rubash, maybe because if a cop stops a dangerous criminal in the act of committing a crime then they are doing their job and should be beyond reproach. However if they do not investigate or seem to care about a property crime that affects people every day then they don’t seem to be doing that part of their job. Broad brush much? WTF is a rwnj anyway? Just anyone who doesn’t agree with you or is there actual qualifications.

Difficult to park and leave vehicles at most any recreational parking area with out worrying about break ins. I like swimming areas on the Eel river where you can drive close to the river and keep an eye on your car. Attitudes towards criminal behavior is definitely lighter than when I was young. I saw an article from the Bay Area where it was proposed to pay criminals $300 a month not to use guns in a crime.

Sandy Beaches was correct:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/san-francisco-to-launch-pilot-program-paying-people-not-to-commit-gun-crimes/2645842/%3famp

“San Francisco is launching a pilot program in October that effectively pays people $300 a month not to commit gun crimes.

The goal of the program is to reduce gun violence across the city.”

Why bother even catching these thieves? The DA and judge will let them right out to do it again. This is the state of our community. Thieves get to break and steal and innocent hard-working citizens just have to expect it. But yeah keep paying your taxes and that DA and judge can get a big salary!

Correct, this great blue state is all about less bullies, less hurt feelings, and rehab everyone. No punishment has its consequences, now come on in for a big group hug, that’s better ,isn’t it? Makes me want to go to the boat ramp and take a snooze in the backseat of my pickup. As soon as they blew out my winder I’d jump out and start hugging them , show them places of employment. Make California proud , blue state got its advantages, no jail, lots of drugs, free money , taxed on everything. About the only good thing is the weather, but this blue state is set on changing that.

Yup. 5 Counties in the LA basin politically control California.
(They have 20 million population).

In essence… you do what they want.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the LA Basin doesn’t encompass all of those counties. Especially San Diego and San Bernardino. Riverside goes all the way to the AZ border, as does SB.

A lot of primarily coastal (or coastal adjacent) Southern CA is a megalopolis, though.

Don’t leave out the Bay Area megalopolis, though. That’s around 13 or 14 million, too.

I can’t wait to move out of this crummy area. It’s over ruled with crime. Just spent the week in Madison Wisconsin and realized there are still great places and communities to live in outside of California. Humboldt really does have such a shade of sadness over it and seems to only be getting worse.

Too many commenters talking shit they know little about. How about let’s post about preventions. Someone out there must have ideas about how we can prevent crime. In my neighborhood our Neighborhood Watch suggested all of us putting in cameras. Which we did and no one lately has had their vehicles broken into. A neighbor placed pinhole cameras inside his vehicle and leaves them active over night. The neighbor behind me put up an eleven foot fence with carpet tack strips along the inside top boards. I raised my driveway gate to eight feet and used carpet strips. Anyone who tries to climb over the fence will have a lot of rusty tack holes in their hands. Another neighbor put in a cyclone fence around his vehicles that he parks in the back yard, with concertina wire around the top. I don’t know how much it costs, but I’m sure it will prevent a thief. We also have senior citizens living on my block. An 84 year old guy was worried about someone breaking into his house at night. He does have much money so a couple of us bought heavy duty sliding bolts and installed them on the front and back doors. Someone has ideas about defense. We need to not use comments about beheading, lazy police, sending everyone to prison and throwing away the keys or what judges and the DA aren’t doing. None of those complaints are going to work. We need to think about preventions. Don’t think about $$$. Just give us ideas.

Great ideas but the this boat ramp is a difficult case. Cameras may work as there are no homes close by. Once upon a time there was a beautiful restroom facility but that was ruined as well. I lost a CB antenna while out fishing.

My solution was buying an expensive home at a dead end. But it doesn’t help when there’s 3 obvious drug houses at the mouth of the street. I also invested in a ccw. But I do like all the ideas you mentioned lol, it just makes me sad thinking that we as normal citizens would have to boobytrap our property’s with tacks. Almost makes me think of the movie home alone hahaha

One of my neighbors put a huge rusty bear leg trap on top of his fence as a statement. It wasn’t set but it got a message across.

30 to 50 lb fishing line attached to rattley cans- works for bears too. Light weight paint guns. Motion detecting lights and water sprayers.

There’s always the net gun or a net trap set to catch bigger raccoons. Maybe have fun with it and hook up a sound track and some flashing disco lights that trigger along with it. “Mama told me not to come, Mama told me not to come, she said that ain’t the way to have fun, son” Or, “We’ll craaawl through your back yaaard, and wap your yappin’ dog! We’re having much more fun! You don’t know where we’re from!

If it’s loud enough that your neighbors come out and laugh at the guy he will probably never come back.

I really really like the carpet tack strips. Great idea.

Spent 3 years in Arcata and Eureka in the ’80s. Then Arcata again from 2016-2019 and left. Grateful I could and did. The Humboldt community is DEEPLY sick.

This is a result of a society that takes and takes, but never gives back. But when shit goes down, they expect someone else to do it for them. Want to stop this? Form neighborhood watches. Dont like how the police handle it? Get involved with the democratic process.

So many direct from the safety of the internet without actually doing anything. Im a GenXer ya know the slacker generation. But dang people are lazy af now.

The best thing about Humboldt is the natural scenery but how are people going to enjoy that natural scenery if they can’t leave their cars cuz of rampant crime?

Maybe instead of tolerating drug addicts and non working idlers who prey on us, we should put them in work camps where they have to do hard, physical work for at least 8 hours/day. Make them do the work to make the camp self sustaining. Some of them will change their ways, give those people the training and counciling they need to improve.
