The City of Arcata is excited to announce that the newly resurfaced tennis and pickleball courts at Larson Park will reopen on Monday, September 20.

The City of Arcata’s Larson Park Tennis Court Resurfacing Project involved making improvements to the playing courts at Larson Park, and the courts have been closed to the public while the work is being completed.

Work for this project has taken about a week to complete, and within the timeframe, the tennis courts were cleaned, resurfaced and painted to include three pickle ball courts to allow for more sport options for residents to enjoy.

Larson Park’s playing courts had not been resurfaced in over 10 years. Nearing the completion of this project, Environmental Services Director Emily Sinkhorn said, “We’re excited to have these resurfaced courts available for residents at Larson Park. We encourage everyone to visit the park and to take a walk on the Humboldt Bay Trail along Foster Avenue to see the new mural at the Shay Park basketball court. The City of Arcata is proud to foster a community that values spending time outdoors.”

The City of Arcata would like to remind visitors of Larson Park that the playing courts are not to be used for roller skating, skateboarding or bicycling as any activity besides racket/paddle ball sports can cause chips, dips, scrapes and fractures in the new surface.
