Six Rivers Forest Closures, Reopening and Restriction Started Yesterday

Six Rivers National Forest is officially back open to the public.  However, some areas are still closed, and restrictions are in place:

CLOSED AREAS: Trinity Alps Wilderness, Monument Fire area and McCash Fire area.

RESTRICTIONS: NO Campfires are allowed ANYWHERE within the Six Rivers National Forest, including wilderness areas, or developed recreation sites. This includes no smoking- except within an enclosed vehicle or a building and in a designated recreation site.  No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame and no operating an internal combustion engine unless in Designated Recreation Sites.

These restrictions are in effect from September 16th, 2021 through November 30th, 2021, or until rescinded.

A violation of any of the above is punishable of a fine of no more than $5,000 for an individual. $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

If you can’t run internal combustion engines, that means no cars, trucks, quads, motorcycles, etc. More importantly, this means no chainsaws. For the thousands who rely on wood heat, when do we get to go use the wood permits we were issued?
