Cal Fire Burn Suspension Still in Effect

Press release from Cal Fire:

The CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit would like to remind the public that outdoor debris burning is still suspended. While showers are forecasted for the coming weekend, the threat of wildfire will still remain. These showers may affect lighter fuels such as grass, but the heavier dead fuels will remain extremely dry. Any effect on fuels such as dead grass would be short-lived. Dead grass takes only an hour to respond to changes in humidity. The National Weather Service is predicting breezy winds this weekend with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, increasing fire potential.

Every year CAL FIRE responds to debris burn escapes when residents underestimate the fire danger and decide to burn illegally. Even with some precipitation, peak fire season conditions remain, especially with the predicted winds and heavy dead fuel conditions. Those found responsible for burning illegally could face civil and/or criminal penalties.

The CAL FIRE Humboldt – Del Norte Unit urges the public not to burn until after the burn suspension is lifted, and then, only dry vegetation, with proper permits, and on approved burn days. Contact CAL FIRE and the North Coast Unified Air Quality District (NCUAQMD) for more information.

Cue: All the weirdos that try to tell everyone not to light their woodstove until it rains.

You can use your woodstove year-round.

That’s right. Still having dry wood in April is for lames. I encourage my family to stoke a hot fire any time the evening temps get down in the 50s. Just remember that hot embers do exit the stove pipe, so clean out your gutters, and sweep the roof when enjoying a toasty fireside cuddle in the peak of fire season.

You do need to have a spark arrestor so you don’t burn down what’s left of the forest.
Now, I’m sure there are those who think that’s another eXcessive gubbernment regUlation, but work with the rest of us on this one.

All we need to do now is gather up all the Tin Foil Hatters and dispatch them into forest. Lose a hat, save a tree!
