Late Night Shooting at a Covelo Bar Leaves One Dead and Authorities Searching for Two ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Suspects

In an early morning Facebook post, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating two armed and dangerous suspects associated with last night’s shooting outside Covelo’s Buckhorn Bar that left one person dead.

MCSO described the two suspects associated with the homicide:

  • Dino Michael Blackbear (AKA Lincoln), 34-year-old, 6′, 220 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes
  • Carina Amanda Carrillo, 32-years-old, 5′ 6”, 120 pounds, black hair and brown eyes

The Facebook post by MCSO describes the incident occurring near the intersection of Greeley and Highway 162 in Covelo at approximately 11:30 p.m. Blackbear and Carrillo were last seen traveling on foot near the area of Tabor Lane at 12:30 a.m.

Scanner traffic from last night’s homicide placed the incident at the Buckhorn Bar and portrayed a dramatic scene. The dispatcher worked hard to coach the reporting party through CPR while the reporting party initially was screaming through the telephone. The victim was reportedly transported via ambulance but succumbed to their injuries.

MCSO warned the suspects should be considered “armed and dangerous with a small caliber firearm” and urged members of the public to “not approach and contact 9-1-1.”

MCSO asks that any member of the public, “with information regarding their possible whereabouts is urged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at 707-463-4086.Anyone wishing to remain anonymous is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Tip-Line at 707-234-2100.”

Kym no one believes you. You delete comments more than you post stories. You are a biased hack “journalist” just like 99.99% of the rest of them, and everyone knows it. Any story about white people or conservatives, its a comment shitfest. Anything about minorities or democrats and you show up to “limit the discussion”. Drugs dealt at all hours of the day and night at the bars in Willits, Covelo, Laytonville. The Mendocino Sheriff Department knows and nothing is done. Hard drugs; Meth, Coke , Molly, pills, opiates etc. These drugs trickle down to the kids from the 21 year olds to the 15 year olds. Gangsters and thugs waiting in the bar for our “legal youth” to dope them up and sell their wares. The Sheriff only shows up to mop up the blood after a stabbing shooting or beating. All the Sheriff Department Priorities are in Cannabis Eradication to get Asset Forfeiture Money$$ for the Sheriff Department.

People of all walks of life are dealing, making, consuming and dying from this FettyPowder that has swarmed all of our communities…. Make some positives out of this, if you can??

Not exactly.
A 5150 is an allegation, not a determination.”Deemed 5150″, sounds like a determination, not an allegation. Cops aren’t doctors.
The allegation results in a 72 hr evaluation. If a psychiatrist concurs, however justly or unjustly, then, and only then, is the person “deemed” to be a threat, and then, under 5250, the person can be held longer than 72 hrs.

A 5150, and a 5250, are very different.

And it’s not a game to be played, or something to threaten someone with.

The level of ridiculous goes on and on and on never ending in Covelo. Why? Why? Why? County spent so much time n money in Mendocino redoing a cute little Sheriff’s Office. There needs to be a permanent option in Covelo. Hmmm… share the fire station whatever you guys can figure out start doing something a little more in funtion instead of TALK. Tribal Police get your asses out there to increase your numbers by tenfold. Take a lot of the money that you’re getting for these fundings and grants and start doing more stuff of educating the kids of how screwed up these situations are. The criminality of these situations going on and on and on and no care or proacttive action nothing. No cares or doing anything about these tragedies. Stay tuned next week for the next episode to see who the hell else falls. My goodness then all the overdoses too…CRIPE. WHIPPITS!!!

Much of this Mendocino/Humboldt area is going to get worse with the crash. Secure what you have and have a neighborhood watch. The desperate thieves will be arriving soon. Expect bad behavior from all sides as desperation sets in…many of the later arrivals have their equity completely tied up in mortgages they will not be able to keep up with. And their get-rich greenrusher dreams are broken…

Re, “Secure what you have and have a neighborhood watch.” …

So much more than a NW is needed. I first read about Mutual Assistance Groups in the book, A Failure of Civility, by veteran combat Special Ops soldiers Mike Garand and Jack Lawson. A brief excerpt from the book…

“During civil unrest, one person’s home can be easily attacked and could end in the beating or death of the homeowners and the looting of their home.

Success by lawless elements at one home is contagious and will quickly focus their attention to your home and others in the neighborhood.

If a neighborhood has several families visibly organized to collectively resist criminals, the strategic and tactical advantage for these lawless elements becomes enormously more complicated. Most times criminals take one look and go elsewhere. This alone will not be a deterrent if there is a Long Term Crisis or A Failure of Civility though.”

What? Do you want to know if they are illegal immigrants? Let me put it this way…the guy’s last name is Blackbear and he’s a Lincoln…that means his ancestors were in the Covelo area long before yours were likely in the US. I don’t know about Carillo but if her ancestors came here at the same time my Montoya cousins did, then her ancestors were in California before yours came to the US, too.

So if you want a fuller reporting than that, go find it elsewhere. (good luck)

“Nkswiss” is the commenter you have replied to, that is strongly requesting additional info, as if what was provided was insufficient, who is basically ‘rattling your cage”.

Just curious if there was a flurry of “newly created” commenter logins (emails, etc.) since you explained the new process yesterday to what I would assume would be an “already logged in” commenter.

His excitement over this new login information I just thought was a little telling as far as, if a bunch of “new characters” were about to be created… Along with all the new associated logins..

And sure enough, the “characters” appeared…

“Nkswiss”, “Minor abuse”, “Too Close For Comfort”, “Cleverkins”…

Is there “another commenter”,
with many interacting commenter puppets?

The real marionette show?

All but Nkswiss appeared between ” another commenter” in comments. Before and after.

It was “Minority Abuse” that seemed most telling, as he tried to control the comment section, a telltale similarity:

“Shut down the comments,or create a pay per post.”

Pretty obvious, IMHO.

Not really an issue that I care about, just an observation, and I maybe saw it coming. Just curious if one commenter is using multiple logins and handles on the same thread, which would be indicated if the different new commenters login info were all from the last day.

Like I said, just curious, as that is “another commenters” pet peeve.

🤔🧐I’ve always thought the commenter in question’s main beef with anyone using different handles on the same thread, is that he wanted to be able to do it exclusively.😁

Like I said , just curious if my observations were correct.

It would be pretty easy to circumvent moderation or rules if I used a different email, or different login info.

I wouldn’t, but that’s just me.

But, I’m not trying to be “Cleverkins”, or trying to bend or break the rules, like it’s some sort of challenge, or how I might demonstrate my, (facetious font),”superior” intellect.

I do find it interesting though, for whatever reason. If it can be confirmed, that would be cool.

Ah yes, the ole “I was here first” narrative, just like in the grammar school lunch line. Just because you get there first doesn’t mean you’re the best. Getting here first is one thing, holding on to it is quite a different proposition. My ancestors from Scotland will attest to that. Damn English.

The unpopular Act of Union 1707 was enacted by the Estate, a hand picked council of the wealthy with financial ties to England. Never by popular vote. What tipped the recent vote for independence was the 500,000 English living in Scotland. Granted, polling before the election showed true Scots split evenly on Independence but as the day approached it leaned toward Independence. My family resides in Scotland, and I followed the day to day dynamics of the election. There’s always more to the story and ultimately it’s all about the money.

A great number of the early immigrants from Scotland did not come by choice. The owners of the land where they and their ancestors resided sent them packing. A few were transported as traitors (meaning they lost the battle.) So what is the point how those who remained behind voted almost three hundred years later?

Same thing happened with some Brits, who were a different milieu from the religious seekers and entrepreneurs who settled New England and the wannabe Lords who settled from Virginia south. Apparently they were from a distinct region of Britain. Thomas Sowell attributed the hillbilly culture of Appalachia to that group.

Beside the unevidenced assumption that a poster’s ancestors all came from Europe, it seems like a person who is descended either the first immigrants or a very recent ones is to be protected from race based derision while those whose ancestors came from in between immigrants are fair game. Surely there must be a reason for that being ok but it’s not clear what it is.

I don’t see that. There is probably a quieter distinction. Some, certainly not all of the first immigrants here married into native families. Or helped when things got bad. But certainly not all. And I’m sure it all depends on who one talks to. For those of us who are mixed who moved here later it’s not always obvious, not family and nothing is taken for granted, nor should it be. Remember, also, this is a late area. It wasn’t that long ago. Take a good look at the history here. It is nothing like Scotland’s history.

Mr Blackbear was charged for something related to murder in 2018. The photo here is his mug shot from that arrest. These people in general do seem to keep their violence and low – grade criminality among themselves. For this we should be thankful since were not threatened as long as we stay out of their orbit.

Nothing is said about the 'victim' here. Whoever he is, it is my guess that he did not use good judgement, even if he were a legitimate type of person. I dont know many — if any — solid citizens who would be found in a bar, late at night, on a week day. If he were of the same sort as Mr Blackbear & Ms Carillo, then its really their business. If he were otherwise, then if one sticks ones hand in a hornets nest, they shouldnt complain if they get stung.

An interesting — and perhaps quite useful — exercise would be to compile a detailed statistical analysis of violent crime in Mendocino county. Perhaps burglary and theft could be included here as well. This would include:

1. Geographic location

2. Prior criminal history

2. Age of perpetrator

3. Familial connections of perpetrator to victim

4. Familial connections in general

And lastly,

5. The all important characteristic which if stated here would get this entire post deleted.

If you grew up there, perhaps you stopped and saw the commemorative plaque on the turn overlooking Round Valley.
The dark past started way before booze, though booze certainly accompanied the white men herding Native Americans from all over the north state into the valley.
Perhaps David Heller could enlighten the more recent arrivals to Round Valley, Covelo, and others of us who read and respect what RHBB does and represents here.
It’s a sad tale. But worth telling more than once, lest we forget.

“In 1864, the government reduced the reservation by four fifths, to it’s current size.” Was the 4/5 government reduction in acreage or in the size of the population of the many tribes gathered in Covelo? Either way, it is a complete tragedy that many of the people who migrated to what is now the “United States” (including my ancestors, unfortunately) could not figure out how to live peacefully AND not usurp land that was never owned to begin with. There was conflict between some of the different Native American tribes, but the loss of life and fighting amongst the tribes was nothing like the bloodshed, murders, rapes, and displacement of native people that occured soon after Columbus supposedly “discovered America.” Disgusting that the truth is still withheld from students in grammar school history classes, at least in the state of Georgia, where I was “educated.”

I just now saw your response, a hazard of waiting for posts to be approved is not going back to them as the conversation moves so far ahead of approval.

I moved here in 97 and only was able to hear parts of the trial when visiting a friend at an earlier time.
I prefer the Mother Jones Version, a magazine I once respected highly.
I read it frequently during the Bush Kuwait BS and the lies about Kuwait’s babies being thrown from incubators.
I also recall a Bush article called My Three Sons regarding Jeb and oil acquisition in Qatar.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Ah, memories of why I don’t trust what I’m told, or mandated.

Google Covelo, California. You will get a lot of hits.
A very tragic history since the Valley was first encountered by non Indians to today.

After you wake up with your head in the toilet a few times, your intelligence should kick in. No race can blame another for continuing to poison themselves after experiencing the results.
I suspect Indians and all cultures found a way to alter their consciousness throughout time.

Forty eight years in the Valley, and you nailed it.

I remember the pullout before that plaque was cast. I also remember a time when a call to 911 would be ignored. I remember a time when the resident leo’s trailer got shot up. I remember the Lincoln “manhunt”. But what I remember most, was a time when you didn’t really worry about losing your life in the Buckhorn. Your teeth maybe, but not your life. The drug culture has completely RUINED Round Valley. Until the drug problem goes away, it will get worse by the day.

Meanwhile. .. .some simple Qs, like who died? …
How big?
How old?
Shot in the neck? CPR trying to force bullet into his heart = 🎯

Certainly, pressure on the wound, yes. But CPR? Wouldn’t that be the Hiway to H#%%. If RP was screaming, likely there was already blood pouring all over everything!

You know I have tried my best not to make a comment. Why? Because in 2009 when my brother got shot in Covelo, I heard the same kind of derogatory comments. People just commenting and not really saying anything. I just spent 2.5 years in Covelo and after this contract ends I will be going back. Why? In the 2.5 years there I personally feel I have found and know some of the most incredible people that occupy the land of Round Valley/Covelo CA. I have been in the homes and talked to the people, I have come to be extremely close to a lot of people/families. I respect all whom I have come in contact with and that comes with not only talking and interacting with them. But also before the covid hit, as soon as the library doors opened at whatever time I stayed in there reading and researching.

I have talked to numerous business owners, law enforcement, process servers, lawyers, judges, and anyone whom I came in contact with to know or listen, not offering anything but eyes and ears. I just want to build some basketball courts and a community center. Based on the comments and what some of you feel it may seem like something impossible. But I will let you know it will happen and the community of Covelo Ca/RoundValley will benefit greatly. I am not posting to change any of your posts or comments because obviously some of you are stuck on senseless comments. I am not here to name-call or contribute in a negative way.

However, the suspect involved I know greatly and I consider a friend and I do not know the lady. He has helped and contributed greatly to the youth while I have been there. Lost in all this was WHO was killed. I have an idea but waiting for the news to report and maybe out of respect, there is a delay because to me that is just as important. You see there will be families that will be hurt, there will be kids that will be affected, and a community that has to adjust. There is a person that comes to mind I wish that I could talk to because in times like this the anger that comes with this can be pretty devastating. Especially with your comments. A lot of you just do not get it or know. The people of Covelo/Round Valley are some great people. My brother could have easily left after he survived the shooting and could have just said the h**l with it. But he did not and he continues to build and contribute to the community daily. And never has left there for longer than 7 days ( a vacation he finally took). A lot of those late-night talks I have had with people in the community or early morning workouts with the kids having parents/uncles making sure their kid or nephew shows up is not in your posts. The times I personally stopped what I was doing to make sure kids get their grades together not just for sports but to help their community overall are not in your posts. And having parents or uncles assist with group studying . You see my 2.5 years was, is, and has been very rewarding not only to me but for all whom I have come in contact with. Not just in Covelo but for all the surrounding communities. I have heard stories while washing clothes in Willits from bikers that would make your bones rattle, while also hearing compassion from the same group about what they had done to create change. I have talked with numerous teachers or counselors all the way to Oregon Border and as far down as Santa Rosa.

You see when a person writes or publishes an article they are posting what they know, also while knowing the history and concerns of the welfare for others. Your comments have an inherent lack of knowledge. I get it some of you just like to make comments and think it will never get better or want it to get better. But it will, I will make that promise and stand by it. Because I too want to know who died. Because I realize the effect your comments have on the families affected. The Youth is the Truth. Have a Great and Blessed Day to all who choose to read.
