[UPDATE 10:21 p.m.] Red Flag Warning on the Monument Fire Tomorrow; Spot Fire Jumps Hyampom Road
The situation is heating up again on the south side of the Monument Fire. Firefighters faced active fire behavior today “with uphill runs and short-range spotting,” according to the Northern California Geographic Coordination Center.
This evening, flames jumped the Hyampom Road in the area of Nine Mile Bridge and the fire is burning on either side. The road has been closed.
Firefighters will be challenged by Red Flag warning weather over the fire tomorrow, according to the weather specialist speaking in tonight’s virtual meeting. (See the Plan below.)
According to the Northern California Geographic Coordination Center, the Monument Fire grew to184,142 acres today and is now 41% contained.
Tomorrow the fire is expected to be aggressive and stretch firefighters’ abilities to stop a push along the south line.
Below is a gif showing the smoke rising from the fires in northern California from this afternoon through this evening.
UPDATE 10:21 p.m.: Press release from InciWeb,
The Monument Fire is approximately 184,142 acres and 41% contained. Two areas of the fire remain active: the north side, which is primarily in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area, and the southwest side, which is east of Hyampom. While suppression efforts are being implemented to protect the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area, the Trinity Wild and Scenic River, Inventoried Roadless areas, and endangered species habitat, the highest priority remains the southwest side. Numerous resources are positioned near Hyampom to protect structures and make every effort to halt the fire’s southward advance toward Hayfork Creek and Hyampom Road.
On Sunday, hotshot crews initiated a multi-day firing operation east of Hyampom as a tactic to slow the fire’s spread southward and westward. Crews are conducting the firing operations in two areas: along Pattison Ridge and on the ridge north of James Creek, east of Nine-Mile Bridge. On Monday afternoon, the fire progressed downslope toward James Creek and Hyampom Road at a moderate pace. It reached Hyampom Road at a couple points east of Nine-Mile Bridge where crews were in position to hold the fire north of the road. However, as weather conditions worsened late afternoon, the fire spotted south of Hyampom Road in approximately eight locations. Firefighters were able to suppress and contain most of the spot fires, but one became established south of Nine-Mile Bridge and advanced upslope. Initial estimates are that the spot fire south of Hyampom Road is approximately 80 acres. Skies adequately cleared Monday afternoon, allowing two helicopters to assist ground crews with water drops. Firefighters also have a mobile retardant base near Hyampom that is operational and ready to support them should retardant be needed as a fire-suppression tool. The active southwest area of the fire will be the priority for crews working through the night. On the northern perimeter, the fire was active in Big French Creek. On the northeast side, aerial observers confirmed that the fire remains west of the North Fork Trinity River and Backbone Ridge. Resources continued to clear and widen handlines constructed along Backbone Ridge. Contained fireline elsewhere around the fire perimeter continues to be monitored and patrolled.

Prayers for Hyampom. Now that most towns are safe people will slowly forget about this fire, except Hyampom and the firefighters still out there day after day. We had a sketchy week last week and the exhaustion is still wearing off. Those guys have to keep going and going, til it rains. So much respect for everyone on the line.
Each day that the fire is not in Hyampom is one more day that Hyampom residents can prepare for the fire.
And hopefully they prepare for nothing!
I didn’t want Monument to hit me, but I was preparing for it hitting me for somewhere over a week.
The time, and the work put in during it, was crucial.
Regarding forgetting:
As the fire moves away from those it has touched, it is good to feel more disconnected from it.
It’s not that no one will care.
Many will until it is out.
But if you’ve been through a multi-week or month fire, you need a break. All firefighters rest and have shift changes.
It’s good to not be drowned by other’s bad news each and every day, in my opinion.
What comes will pass.
test
Yes definitely a test. Let rain surprise us soon.

What’s your take on this guy?
I have a question in to the web developer. As far as I understand, there should be a button in the lower left of the main comment box https://wpdiscuz.com/docs/wpdiscuz-7/privacy-and-gdpr/right-to-erasure-be-forgotten/
But it isn’t showing for anyone that I have talked to.
Thank you.
Also, is the picture size max only 1mb?
Yes.
We’re working on this.
according to statistics posted on September 3rd we were only 90000 or so acres less than last years total. So yes probably the worst ever definitely the worst in 20 years in terms of total acres burned. Thankfully so far not worst in lives lost however.
