The dog starring in an upcoming Tom Hanks movie, “Finch,” was rescued locally at Redwood Pals in McKinleyville.

We’ve reached out to Redwood Pals and the Finch team at Apple TV+ and will update this story if they respond.

“… Our rescue dog Seamus has left Humboldt County seeking fame and fortune in the film industry,” Redwood Pals noted in May of 2018. “That’s right — Seamus is under consideration for a part in a movie…”

“Finch” will debut on Apple TV+ on November 5. In addition to Hanks and Seamus, the film also stars Caleb Landry Jones of “Get Out” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”  fame.

“… As the trio embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West, Finch strives to show his creation, who names himself Jeff, the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive,” reads a press release from Apple TV+. “Their road trip is paved with both challenges and humor, as it’s as difficult for Finch to goad Jeff and Goodyear to get along as it is for him to manage the dangers of the new world.”

At the time of the dog’s adoption, Redwood Pals claimed Seamus had gone to an excellent home with a trainer.

“He is not just being used for a project and then sent on his way. We checked.”

Seamus is likely an Irish Terrier mix, ‘Pals said.

“Finch” appears to be rated PG-13.

This story will be heard in the next episode of Humboldt Last Week, Humboldt County’s weekly news podcast.

UPDATE (3:40 p.m. on September 1)

Noting that Seamus was found on a snowy day out Route 36, Mara Segal of Redwood Pals says at one point he was considered nearly unadoptable before they worked with him.

“Redwood Pals always hopes that people will see that just because a dog is considered unadoptable under one set of circumstances, it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be wonderful in a different environment,” she said.

Seamus is apparently having the time of his life in Hollywoof — er, Hollywood.

“He auditioned for one movie, then had some serious veterinary needs, and then landed an amazing role in this movie after meeting Tom Hanks and making a good impression on him,” Segal said. “… We may see him on the big screen yet again after ‘Finch.’ He is a much-beloved member of the animal acting team in Los Angeles, where we had the opportunity to visit him in the fall of 2019.”
