[UPDATE 5:54 p.m.] Fire Near Redcrest Threatening Structures

Fire helmet red backgroundJust after 5 p.m., a fire started in the Redcrest area off the Avenue of the Giants. Multiple people had called stated that flames were burning behind the Burl Shop at Redcrest.

A dispatcher sent out a full wildland response including aircraft, John’s Dozers and an all call for the Rio Dell fire crews as well as Redcrest Fire.

About 5:20 p.m., the Incident Commander reported finding a 30′ x 30′ spot burning in heavy fuel with structures threatened when he arrived on scene. He told dispatch to cancel the air attack and the tanker but keep the copter coming.

Copter 102 is on scene as of 5:23 p.m. One state engine is on scene but the resources still responding can cancel.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 5:27 p.m.: John’s Dozers is being told to cancel.

UPDATE 5:54 p.m.: More resources are being released which is a good indication that the fire is coming under control.

The big fundraiser for the Westhaven VFD is their annual Wild Blackberry (not Himalayas) Festival the last Saturday every July. Unfortunately, the last two years have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Don’t forget willow creek volunteer fire department, they are always there, assist river rescue, homes, businesses, go to other small communities to help. They have not been able to do some of their normal fundraising due to covid

I’ve only come up with 5 VFDs for Trinity County, since they are getting hammered this summer, wondering if anyone knows of more VFDs for Trinity. Thnx!

While it is in Del Norte County, the Gasquet Volunteer Fire Department is one of the beneficiaries of the annual Gasquet Raft Races. Contact through the Community Services District at 707-457-3107.

When you see the long list of volunteer fire departments in our area, you realize how many people have committed to lots (lots!) of training and then showing up at all hours to protect all of us…and then there’s all of the gear and vehicles needed to do this job well and safely. Please donate to your local VFDs. Please.

75% of ALL firefighters in the US are volunteers. We would be burned to a crisp without them.
(Not to mention that they are the first responders at car wrecks, dog bites, ladder mishaps and other small disasters)

Lynn, I was only able to find their actual physical addresses for Trinity County VFDs, where I’ve sent some checks. Where did you find their P O Boxes, pls?

Google search. Most had theirs on their FB page. Several didn’t have it on their FB but I found it on a complied VFD list. I cross referenced half of those and they all seemed up to date.

Oh, & I did not write the original list posted here. I just took the ones people suggested in the comments and looked for those.

There’s a ton of fire starts near Redding (10, clustered) and between Yuba and Red Bluff (7, mostly in a line) in the past 24 hours. Interesting.

https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/%3F/38.0793/-123.2472/7
click on the icon that looks like a screen or display board on the left. Green and gray dots are new fire starts. Time and date are off. Ones that started today say 8/27.

Thank you!!

Lets not forget to scroll just a wee bit and give some donations to Kym!!!

Many thanks for always having that list available Kym, and to the woman who compiled it ❤

To growers out there who may not know, back in the days of 10 plant grows we would all pick a plant in the garden to be the donation plant, meaning the money made off that plant went to our local folks…VFDs, schools, the mateel, KMUD, the library, Hospice, etc etc etc.
Please keep this spirit going? It returns to you, for real.

Don’t let folks from your community run down the hard working firefighters from all of the agencies out there putting the work in. Kym defends a lot of folks that have negative comments about those that are out there busting there butts working long hours.
These folks aren’t the ones making the big decisions and moving fire resources around. Don’t let folks with poor info put the fire fighters down.

What a fantastic list of our local volunteer fire departments. I had no idea there were so many, just never put it all together. People please donate what you can to help these fire departments survive and grow. Thank you Kim for bringing all those departments to our attention. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank you Kym!
