Gabino Antonio Rivera

On Aug. 16, 2021, at about 6:27 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a parking lot on the 7300 block of Tompkins Hill Road for the report of a vandalism and brandishing that had just occurred.

Deputies contacted a 41-year-old male victim who was uninjured. The victim told deputies that he had driven to the Fields Landing Boat Ramp to meet with a female acquaintance, 42-year-old Melissa Marie Ryan. Upon his arrival, the victim was confronted by Ryan and 50-year-old Gabino Antonio Rivera. According to the victim, Rivera brandished a knife at the victim, began threatening him, then stabbed a tire and the victim’s vehicle.

The victim fled in his vehicle to the Tompkins Hill location. The suspects followed the victim to the location. Rivera then reportedly exited his vehicle and brandished a crossbow at the victim before fleeing the area.

Deputies contacted Rivera and Ryan outside a residence on the 1800 block of Buhne Drive in King Salmon. Following further investigation, Rivera was taken into custody and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 664/245(a)(1)), exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm (PC 417(a)(1)), criminal threats (PC 422), vandalism (PC 594(b)(1)), conspiracy to commit a crime (PC 182(a)(1)) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)(1)).

Ryan was cited and released on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime (PC 182(a)(1)).

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

So if you murder a tire you get to stay in jail, but if you murder a person you get out on your own recognizance.

Only a California…

Does the worthless Marcia Kitchen come to mind? I think she actually paid some bail, but she killed 2 and spent a few months of her sentence. Anyone who doesn’t realize her release and hundreds of thousands of criminals released by our illustrious loser Governor over “COVID” concerns put in priority over the safety of others has their head buried in the sand or are just blind. We can’t keep drug dealers in jail even though their products are killing people. So, quite frankly, yes, you get in trouble in this State more for stupid things like stabbing a tire than for causing human injuries or death.

Covid has killed more than 20 times the number of people in California than there were homicides during the same period. I hope this explaination is not too mathy for you.

Well then I guess we should just stop arresting people and sending them to prison then huh.. I mean if murder isn’t a heinous enough crime to keep someone in prison during a pandemic then what’s the point of arresting anybody for anything?

I guess it depends on if you’d rather let one guilty person go free or 20 innocent people die.

The govenor did NOT choose to release criminals from jail/prison.
The Judiciary Council of CA did.
The govenor is required to comply w/ Judicial rulings.

He is NOT in control of the Judicial Branch of the government of CA.

You do understand that this Democratic Republic, we call the USA, has 3 branches of government, right?
Executive, Legislative, Judicial.
The people are the fourth pillar.

Heard of Checks and Balances?

Anyone pass civics?

A Govenor is the Prime Executor of a State…..like the Sheriff is for a County….or a Mayor is for a City.
All CA Judges are bound by rulings of the CA Judiciary Council.

And maybe you missed that this guy, alledgedly, intentionally threatened a man with a knife AND pursued him in order to threaten him w/ a crossbow.

You think that’s a bs charge?

Who’s head is in the sand?

Put blame where it’s due…but this parroting uneducated misinformed propaganda shite is just that, shite.

Everyone needs to decide how much more $ we want to spend to expand the prison system AGAIN instead of the schools.

Or what real alternative solutions to just locking people up forever with little or no real corrective action?
Prison provides plenty of cheap slave labor for corporations too.

It’s more expensive to imprison 2.1million+ people than to educate EVERYONE.

We are the so called beacon of freedom but we incarcerate a higher # and % of our people than anywhere else on earth.
Compared to “developed” nations our #s are massively higher…as in 5-20 times higher.
It’s NOT working.

Anyone happen to remember that the CA prisons were super overcrowded and the years long court battles that led to loads of early releases and prison inmates being moved to county jails?
That wasn’t the govenor’s doing either.

Based on the very basic misconceptions you, and many others commenting, are working with I’d say brushing up on the fundamentals of law & civics would be a vital community service.
Ass, meet hole in the ground.

That might be a better solution than locking everyone up….stop cutting budgets to schools and people might be less likely to end up in prison OR to parrot misinformation without checking the data.
Critical thinking isn’t genetic, it’s an acquired trait.

Excellent! Spot on addressing education (early) over incarceration (later). Federal spending for public education began its decline in the early 80’s and as continued relatively unabated with the wealthy pushing for “vouchers” so they could send their kids to private schools and also avoid paying taxes. The lost federal monetary contribution had to be made up by the states either through program cuts (usually to the arts, music, and sports) or increased taxes, or both. Where I grew up, the school districts in the county contributed to a vocational program where high school aged students, who chose to do so (and many did), spent the second half of the day at vocational training learning to become carpenters, electricians, plumbers, welders, HVAC techs, etc. HumCo NEEDS such a program, and heavy equipment operator training would be a great addition.
When the piers which support the public education system are pulled, they are usually then used to support the prisons.

Gabino was always a good worker. Shows up on time and keeps his habits out of sight and out of mind. He can be counted on to take charge and steer a situation. Past experience as a knife handler and womanizer makes him the perfect candidate for your next temp worker project. Should be available in 3-5 (hours).
