[UPDATE 4 p.m.] Evacuation Orders Issued for Wildwood in Trinity County; Hwy 36 Being Closed

The McFarland Fire south of Wildwood along Hwy 36 is growing. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Department just issued evacuation ORDERS for the town of Wildwood. (See below.)

The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page and Caltrans Quick Map report that they have been ordered to close Hwy 36 at Hwy 3 and at White Rock in Trinity County.

Evacuate

Press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department: 

Evacuation Order ***
Areas impacted: Wildwood
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an evacuation order for the town of Wildwood, CA. Evacuation areas are SR 36 @ Wildwood Road, north on Wildwood Road for 10 miles.
Residents are advised to leave the area immediately
The Evacuation Center will be at Solid Rock Church in Hayfork, CA on Tule Creek Road.
Those who are evacuating take precaution as there will be emergency vehicles in the area providing structure protection, fire suppression, and evacuation support.

Please note:

  • An Evacuation Order means you should leave now and the area is closed to the public.
  • An Evacuation Warning means the residents of the area should prepare to leave if ordered to do so.

UPDATE 4 p.m.: The Red Cross tweeted, “The Red Cross will open a temporary evacuation center at Solid Rock Christian Fellowship – Tule Creek Rd & Hwy 3 – in Hayfork at 4:30 PM this afternoon.”
UPDATE 5 p.m.: Please note that Hwy 299 is closed because of another wildfire.

Don’t forget 101N at Last Chance Grade is closed for 8 hours a day as well.

Good point, although the weekend also has the tourist traffic to deal with. 🙂 Then again, I just did a drive down south and from roughly Ukiah to San Diego the traffic mostly sucked. I think I-5 through the Central Valley is one of the most unpleasant drives I’ve done in recent memory.

That blew up BAD today, looked like a nuke went off. Had some Airbnb guests coming over from Red Bluff off the 5 and they got through just before they closed 36 and were pretty freaked out by the flames rushing down at them. Hope they hold the line at 36 tonight

Has there been a lot of lightening up there this year? I used to live in that area years ago and do not remember ever having the amount of strikes like you guys are having.
