The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim of a fatal shooting in the 59000 block of Bell Springs Road Friday, July 23.  The Sheriff’s Office announced, “On 07-29-2021 Sheriff’s Detectives were able to identify the victim as being Edgar Alejandro Becerra-Almaraz (27 year-old male from Rohnert Park, California).” They stated, “Next of kin notification has been completed and follow-up investigations are still ongoing by Sheriff’s Detectives at this time.”

Becerra-Almaraz’s shooting occurred early in the morning of the 23rd. The Press Democrat reports that he had been shot in the leg.

Earlier this week, the Sheriff’s Department identified the gunman as Oscar Alvarez Ruiz, also of Rohnert Park.

Ruiz and another person attempted to flee the scene of the shooting, an illegal cannabis grow, soon after it happened. A deputy chasing them was injured and hospitalized. However, deputies eventually took Ruiz and the other person into custody.

A press release earlier this week from the MCSO declared, “The motive and circumstances of incident are still under investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives.”

But wait, we were told repeatedly starting in the late 80’s through 90’s to now…….marijuana does not bring crime!

Come on people, its just a plant, we can grow this no problem. Let the people do what they want in the hills its just growing some marijuana. That was the start, then it was allowed to blow up, again, mostly the community was accepting of this new drug culture, and now it is blown up.

Absolutely impacting our communities health and the environmental health severely so. Water continues to be pulled illegally from creeks, streams, impacting flows in rivers. Not to mention the incredible damage being done to the Oak woodlands and prairies that are very sensitive and recently being described “as important or more so” than old growth forests.

And yet not a peep out of any of the environmental groups out there coming out and both exposing the environmental harm and filing the lawsuits they are famous for regarding any other developments.

Pathetic hypocritical spineless folks!!

One of my favorite places to visit on a trip to Eureka this time of year, the dahlia garden at Eureka zoo.
They were more spectacular in years past though, not the same quality of care nowadays.

blaw, blaw, blaw, it is the same old response every time.

The truth hurts, and this is the truth, the canned response (blaw, blaw, blaw) says it all.

“The Real Brian” below got it right!!

The environmental groups are spineless and hypocritical when it comes to truly defending the environmental damage being done by these grows.

You lie it’s always been a criminal activity. Money is why crime and murder happen and it happens cause your government is a part of keeping it that way cause of their greed. Let’s skirt the real issue and blame it on the dope makes it easy for pea brains to understand.

the north coast environmental center did some work exposing the greedy cannabis community, but yes its true there is a noticeable silence from the local environmental organizations regarding crime and the exploitation of wild landscapes by their friends in this industry.
some don’t seem to realize that they ARE the new “good old boys”.
we’ve all turned a blind eye for decades to the footprint of this industry because we are all in it in one way or the other.
to be fair, i hate the wine industry even more, along with realtors and of course the old timber profiteers.
i dont see how this economic mentality can continue, there has got to be better ways to carve out a life than all this rat race stuff.
capitalism doesnt seem to have the answers and im sure that the lefts social justice socialism would amount to not much more than the universalization of poverty by other means

Poverty & prohibition result in crime. The government has failed its citizens.

Yea except Edgar didn’t ever victimize or commit crimes on random people or innocent people. He was the victim of a senseless murder… Edgar was a cool dude who had morals and definitely didn’t deserve to die this young over simple baby momma/ family-inlaw drama…. So everyone show some damn respect because it could be your family or friend or you even next and everybody bashes you in the comments and make your family/friends feel bad and angry over the lack of respect and decency of people. Y’all are a part of the problem..

It’s easy to sit at a keyboard and spew shit that would get them knocked on their asses if they did it in public. It’s amazing how these armchair detectives, psychologists, strategists, experts and mind readers have the answers to virtually every thing under the sun.
I’m sorry for your loss.

Tune in to the similar European climates. They created sustainable agrarian based cultures for many many generations. When you live more & more in tune with the seasons, life slows down, and having a sustainable “enough for all” is our wealth & health.
Fortunately, Humboldt has enough of all levels of agriculture to sustain our population. Our local food & dairy farms are amazing. Restaurants, food trucks, breweries, arts & crafts, Victorian architecture, the climate, and much more, are the base of what makes Humboldt so unique. The boom&bust history of the past 150 years, each in its time, was a travesty. And it’s still that way with the weed business, with no solution or end in sight. We can only hope that the drought causes a huge percent of Greenrushers to go back wherever they came from!

I’m not blaming or excusing anyone. Get real. Go to the actions and start there. The perp is just another fuck head (MALE) out of control with his actions. Let’s get a count going how many guys vs. gals are committing violence amongst us. Was he on meth (again), topped off with booze (again)? Let’s get the details.
There’s outlaws, there’s criminals and there’s sociopath criminal wanna be’s everywhere! Humboldt weed culture has it’s share. But it’s everywhere. Today two high ranking Catholic Cardinal’s are facing life in prison. One for stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the Vatican and one for sex crimes against a minor. Note: there are hundreds of thousands of pedophile priests on record and cases pending. But when theft occurs that’s when the Vatican gets upset. The point is criminals and their bad playing counterparts are everywhere. There’s more of them everyday because it’s genetic. Yes not only can meth cause it by damaging the brain but sociopathy is passed down to the next generation. Blaming the outlaw grower is picking bottom fruit.
