Road Rage Incident Near Leggett Lands Yuba County Felon in County Jail Accused of Brandishing Firearm At Other Driver

Marissa A. JohnsonA Marysville woman stands accused of multiple charges including driving under the influence, brandishing a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon after a traffic collision on July 16 near Leggett resulted in a roadway confrontation originally reported as a woman firing a machine gun.

California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Rick Fowler told us CHP was dispatched to the crash along Highway 101 located near Leggett’s Cal Fire station after 25-year-old Marissa A. Johnson attempted to make an unsafe pass that led to crashing into a truck and trailer.

This collision led to a verbal confrontation, Officer Fowler said, that escalated when Johnson allegedly brandished a firearm.

Initial reports via scanner traffic indicated a woman was firing a machine gun, but Officer Fowler saw this as demonstrative how initial reports cannot be verified until officers have arrived at the scene and investigate the circumstance.

Officer Fowler said CHP responded to the scene and was able to take Johnson into custody without incident. She was in possession of three semi-automatic pistols, Officer Fowler added.

Johnson was booked into the Mendocino County Jail early the following morning facing three misdemeanors: leaving the scene of an accident, DUI, and brandishing a firearm. She also faces three felonies: carrying a concealed weapon, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

It should be noted: ecords from the Mendocino County Sheriff Booking logs indicate Johnson was released on Monday evening.

This information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Good thing California enforces its tough gun laws to keep us all safe. This convicted felon was in possession of only 3 pistols and had to spend an entire weekend locked up.

Getting released on Bail or ROR No Bail release per the CA State Judicial Council doesn’t mean these people don’t face charges or trial.

It’s not even up to the SO or DA of any county.

They are not just let go of.
Still have the same “soft probation” limits on their activity until their case is adjudicated.

Seems a LOT of people need some real education on who’s responsible for what in the legal system.

Especially the ones who parrot the blowhard commentators that so many people think speak news…..it’s straight up propaganda and you folks are the marks

The problem is that there they are, week after week, arrested and released over and over for the same shit. Some of us would like to see them held while those wheels of justice slowly turn rather than allowing them to continue to victimize others. A great local example is W. Harris. To my knowledge no official information about his death has been released, but it seems pretty clear what happened. In spite of being arrested multiple times for serious crimes, he was allowed by the legal system to remain free and active in his crime spree until a citizen stopped it.

It is a big problem.

The current amplified revolving door at the jails will continue until the Rona can’t be used as the basis to no bail release the “lower” risk “less” violent perps per the CA Judicial Council policy designed to avoid above avg outbreaks & deaths of unconvicted perps in county jails.
People have to file complaints and back it up w the facts.

This one had $25K bail.

The Harris autopsy is sched for Aug 18. Nothing official till after.

I’m unsure of many of the details that led Ward being released over and over.

But often times when such things happen the evidence to put someone away is too thin or the victim(s) won’t testify for whatever reason….fear of reprisal (from perp, their assoc, or gangs etc) community derision (bs snitch mentality), etc
When it does happen for those reasons blaming law enforcement or the courts is often futile. But we do vote for Sheriffs, DAs, & Judges.
The public rarely is given the details by which to squarely judge most situations. Clarity w the public vs containing critical intel for an investigation…it’s tough.

Right here in comment section I’ve again n again heard people complaining and majorly derisive to the cops for not doing shit about problems but many of those same complainers won’t call the cops or stand up to bear witness against violence in their community.
Sometimes bcuz they’re scared of catching shade for their own illicit activity.

This issue cuts so many ways.

Felon in possession of a firearm. How many is the count now? I would say nearly half of the reported arrests here on this post are felons in possession of firearms.

Yet, all you will hear from the liberal left or the left leaning media is how we need more gun laws to reduce gun violence!

Exactly. And then cry that the right wing “insurrectionist” guilty of walking around the capital “only” got 8 months. Liberalism is a mental disorder!

I find it hard to follow your reasoning Bill. Because we have so much gun violence, you think there should be more guns? You are drinking the NRA koolaid a little too much. Compare civilized countries- like say, choose any European country- to any country with lots of guns. Say US or Mexico. We are a violent society because of guns and idiots.

Mexico has very strict gun laws. The shit bags have no trouble getting guns. Barack Obama and Eric Holder sent a bunch, but they are only part of the problem.

But…… it is illegal for felons to have weapons…… It was voted in as a law….. Didn’t you know that!!!!!! I guess criminals don’t give a crappie about your law, keeping passing more lenient ones though. They love you all for it, nothing like enabling a criminal to do more criminal shut! Thank you ignorant and completely inept voters of California!

Usually, in most counties.. felon in possion of a firearm cases are sent up the chain to the AUSA.

Interestingly there are quite a few on the docket in Eureka.

In my professional opinion this person will see some form of incarceration. I would back a number around 80% of the cases sent up to the AUSA are enhanced ACC.

The gun laws are never going to get the guns out of the criminals hands. Even in California with the strictest rules out there, guns are everywhere when criminals are busted. I think the,” make more rules against guns people “are mostly trying to get the automatic weapons off the street. Not take everyone’s guns away. While we will never remove all the guns from the bad guys, the less that are out there, the less chance of criminals getting their hands on them i suppose. But I will never give up my guns voluntarily. They have a place in my life, even if it is just tucked away for a rainy day. I sleep well knowing it is there if I need it.

There are very few automatic weapons in civilian possession. Lots of semiautomatics. Big difference.

As long as we allow political viewpoints to cloud this topic, the problem only gets worse. This is OUR problem. And until WE can accept this is in fact a problem, WE won’t seek a solution. Both side have had decades to address these matters and have chosen to not to in meaningful ways. Evidenced by the current state of affairs. Stop crying or inciting, get busy. Help your fellow citizens.
