[Updated With GoFundMe Link] Firefighter Loses Home and Two Beloved Dogs in Yesterday’s Fire

A Honeydew firefighter lost two beloved dogs and a home yesterday when his residence burned down in the Wilder Ridge area. Reports of the fire poured in to emergency dispatch yesterday about 6:20 p.m. as smoke rose high enough for neighbors to see.

The structure was already fully engulfed when the first firefighter arrived on scene, according to a report yesterday over the scanner. Flames did spread slightly into the vegetation before being put out.

Multiple fire departments and firefighting equipment responded. At the scene were Honeydew Fire Department, Petrolia Fire Department, Telegraph Ridge Fire Department, Rio Dell Fire Department (who was staffing the Mattole Cal Fire Station), and Cal Fire, as well as the Cal Fire helicopter.

Update: To help, a GoFundMe for Timber Guider started here.

What is an irresponsible thing to post ? To assume the dogs perished in the fire if they were locked in the house that day? What would you recommend they say instead??

That is so sad. It goes against what we all think should happen that a person who protects others should suffer. I’m sorry for their loss.

I am so very sorry Honeydew firefighter for the loss of your home. It does not seem right for your loss when you spend time helping others. I pray your dogs were scared and ran away. Hopefully they will come. back. There are many good people in the area, and I certainly hope they help you in anyway possible.

Firefighter, may your two wonderful dogs RIP. I am so very sorry for your loss. Wish I could take away your pain and sadness for their loss. They will be watching over and protecting you from heaven.

There is an additional fundraiser for Claire the landowner (who is without a phone until PG&E drops another pole… Possibly paid for out of her pocket.)

It’s likely the bulk of the money from both fundraisers will go to rebuild.
