Long Delays Anticipated on State Route 36 near Forest Glen in Trinity County This Weekend, Warns Caltrans

Watch out for Road workPress release from Caltrans:

Long delays are anticipated on State Route 36 near Forest Glen (Trinity County) this weekend for helicopter operations to remove hazard trees from the August Complex Fire.
Motorists should plan for up to 2-hour delays on State Route 36 between approximately 3 miles east of South Fork Mountain Road and 2 miles west of Forest Glen on:
  • Saturday, June 26 between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. AND between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 27 between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. AND between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
These hazard trees were cut on upper slopes in the area and are at risk of sliding down towards the highway. Due to the very steep terrain in the area, helicopter operations have been identified as the safest and quickest method to remove these trees. No live traffic is allowed under helicopter operations over the highway. These operations are subject to change at any time.
Motorists are asked to choose alternate routes if possible and to be prepared for these lengthy delays if traveling in the area during these dates and times. This area of State Route 36 is remote, with very few traveler accommodations. Motorists are advised to make sure their vehicles are in good running operation, have a full tank of gas prior to entering the area, and bring snacks, water, and a cell phone.
Caltrans District 2 and contractor J.F. Shea Co. Inc. have been installing metal beam guardrail, removing hazard trees, performing slide work, and assessing and repairing drainage and culvert systems along the State Route 36 corridor following the August Complex last year.
Caltrans District 2 and J.F. Shea Co, Inc. thank the local communities and traveling public for their continued patience as vital repairs continue to be made along State Route 36 in the area.

Thanks for the heads up! Don’t do it, especially with kids or pets, the construction waits in this heat have been brutal.
