Well the first issue I see is to quit giving permits to shit weed growers such as family or friends. Then stop permitting anything over an acre as well as permitting any Tom, Dick or Harry that waves a little money in your face. The only ones hurting Humboldts reputation is local officials who choose to back shit growers.

Funny how it’s a statewide industry which is legal but they want you to work with staff on promoting distinct national marketing which supports the traditional market. No one wants your chump change and the county should use the money to support growers under 10k square feet get into compliance that were sent abatement letters.

Amen.

Marketing by non cannabis growers is funny.

Stop it already.

Take the money and set up seminars for all of those abated.

Help them go legal.

The planning department is a joke.

They only back mega grows and new cultivation. Any pre-existing cultivation site is viewed as criminals.

Go look at how fast new cultivation sites got approved and yet many pre-existing are still going through the process.

The planning department shut down all the marketing Humboldt county needed.

Humboldt exotics on HWY 36 proves the planning department is fraud.

No CEQA required for a new cultivation site of 18 hoop houses.
Oh yeah they got an annual county permit Jan 18th 2018.

How many pre-existing sites were approved at that time?

Humboldt county-the county that decided to abate most craft size local family farms !! Unfortunately for the county you can’t effectively market huge corporate greed farms as well as you could a micro producer *see Canada) ..To top it off the county in its brilliance Decided to allow out of state corporations to come here with no residence requirement ,to literally suck up our most precious resource ( water)for profits to be spent elsewhere.

Quality cannabis over quantity
“We’re seeing a lot of these smaller growers that are coming out with products that are finally meeting consumer expectations,” continues Roch. The micros like Habitat or North 40 Cannabis are both doing amazing stuff. Even the big LPs seem to have admitted defeat in a way and are now trying to build partnerships with small producers that produce good product and then sell it under their craft label. The 7ACRES Craft Collective is one really good example.”

The program is the result of more than a year of research and consultation, said Pete Shearer, the OCS’ senior category manager responsible for dried cannabis flower who designed the program.

“Since the inception of legalization we’ve heard the consumer loud and clear,” Shearer told MJBiz Canada in a phone interview.

They want craft product, product that meets their expectation of quality but also connects them to the producer.

“I think there’s lots of consumers where, for one reason or another, they want to vote with their dollars and support smaller operations, ones that align with their values and their understanding of what good cannabis is.”

For now, the craft designation applies only to dried flower and pre-rolls, although Shearer said it could expand to include other product forms in the future.

Humboldt needs to focus only on the highest level market. Let all the other commercial, huge grows have their low priced product. Keep Humboldt in the “Champagne ” catagory, where it belongs. The county should stop permitting large grows and start permitting the small, boutique grows. That will cut the crap, and decrease water use. The Planners need to WISE UP!!!
When legalization happened,I went to apply for a permit (I wanted to grow my 20 lbs legally) & was told my property was less than 5 acres, so no permit was possible. Even tho I have no close neighbors, I can no longer grow more than 6 plants!! I had 10 kiddy pools & grew 2 small crops / yr. Minimal water, zero environmental damage, but No, I can’t be legal! This is truly crazy! Old folks need autonomy & economic security , in order not to be a financial burden on the County or our family. Planners need to have special permits for longtime Senior resident landowners! There would be no impact to the commercial Statewide market, but could be a boon to our County income.

HCGA or Humboldt Community Business Development Center (HCBDC) both run by Natalynn DeLapp, must need more time to submit their “Proposal” since they are the ONLY Cannabis Focused Non-Profit Organizations that meets the criteria to apply for this windfall. This RFP once again shows how incompetent Humboldt County is in steering our future. Why would HumCo. grant a huge contract to a local non-profit with no marketing experience when there were dozens of qualified high-end marketing firms who originally sent in proposals during the first RFP, only to have them all thrown out once HCGA finalized their “Humboldt County Marketing Assessment.” DeLapp is not the right person to represent our Cannabis Industry considering she helped shutter the timber industry in the name of ecological wealth at the cost of human health. And lets not forget she was representing the Corporate Greenwashed TerraGen Project which would have adulterated our landscape while subjecting our community to long term health consequences that were not disclosed. What we need to do is offer this RFP to all marketing companies nationwide who are inclined and passionate to help our fledgling industry survive. HCGA has not represented our cultivators effectively, locally or in Sacramento and is not capable to marketing our last hope for economic sustainability.
