17-Year-Old Booked Into Mendocino County Juvenile Hall and 19-Year-Old Released With Potential Charges After Nitrous Oxide Leads to Search

This is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:Mendocino County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) feature

On 06-16-2021 at 9:35 A.M. a Deputy working the Lake Mendocino area contacted two male subjects sitting in a vehicle at the south boat ramp in Ukiah, California.

The male driver was 17 years-old and the male passenger was 19 years-old. While talking to the subjects, the Deputy saw multiple used canisters of nitrous oxide throughout the vehicle.

The Deputy attempted to identify the male subjects but they both provided false names at the beginning of the contact. Eventually the Deputy was able to identify the subjects as a 17 year-old male and the 19 year-old as being Bryan Sanchez.

A search of the vehicle and their clothing was performed.

The Deputy located approximately a half ounce of suspected cocaine in one baggie and less than a gram of suspected heroin in another baggie in the pants pocket of the 17 year-old male. No contraband was located on Sanchez’s person.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the glove box and nitrous oxide throughout the vehicle.

Upon the completion of the above investigation, the 17 year-old male was booked into the Mendocino County Juvenile Hall for 11370.1(a) PC (Possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm), 25850(c)(6) PC(Carrying a loaded firearm: Not the registered owner), 148.9(a) PC (False Identification to a peace officer), and 381b PC (Possession of nitrous oxide).

The charges of 148.9(a) PC and 381b PC were filed on Sanchez with the Mendocino County District Attorney Office for potential prosecution and he was released at the scene.

Oh I wonder if this is the guy I saw the other day sucking on his nitrous at the gas station. I didn’t get a chance to grab his plate number as he drove off but I just thought what the hell.
Whip-its as they are known should have some kind of a deposit/CRV type deposit placed on them. Also you have to be over 21 to have them. It’s a huge epidemic. The empty canisters dumped by the bucketful all over the place . They’ve been holding numerous whip it clean up events in Covelo and other areas along the river banks . Not too long ago there was a massive pile of them just dumped in the middle of town . Each one can get you really high for quite a while imagine having a 5 gallon bucket full of those empty canisters . This is reality . Kids a lot of their parents might not be savy to this bs… See em…kids say it was for their BB guns or different things but be aware it’s really a favorite of our youth right now. Very easy to get. Using it long-term causes a great DUH…DUH… dumbing-down factor. BOS KNOW THIS IS ANOTHER SCOUGE ON OUR POPULATIONS., LEOS BE AWARE. HEAD SHOPS, SMOKE SHOPS WHY ARE THEY SELLING WHIP-ITS BY THE BULK CASE???

Yup its another way to avoid your anxieties and unfortunately its habit forming and very destructive to the human mind. So young with so little to help deal with the realities of life. So Sad.

The truth of it is , there is very little left for the youth to do anymore. Thanks to so many restrictive laws , and the waste from generations past. Gone are the swim parks the skate rinks the bowling alleys the arcades hell anytime a group of youths get together there are so many karens around judging and reporting for things that those same karens grew up doing . It is a fact that todays youth dont see much of a future , they are being left with massive debt they dont have a hope of repaying , they are left with a planet that has been used and abused to the point that even open spaces are commercialized pay to visit pay to park better have this pass better only be here between these hours. We have placed so much knowledge on our youth at younger and younger ages that they no longer have those dazed and confused days of the past . No it isnt about doing things just to do them anymore it os all about having to do something that means something to someone …… that or sit about on their games again.
They see their parents checking out either with beer weed or insert vise here because there is nothing anymore except same old same old work try to get a head and pass the buck when you dont get as far as you think you should be it because the color or your skin where your ancestors came from which party holds office etc. Hell with as fast as facts change it is hard to believe anything is a rock solid fact anymore.

Long-term use of nitrous oxide causes what’s exactly? It is not known to cause brain damage in the manner that it is normally used recreationally.

Yes there should be a CRV on the cartridges, and the CRV on all other recyclable containers should be quadrupled.

Here’s a few. Hint- google is your friend.
Memory loss, vit B12 depletion long term can cause brain and nerve damage, ringing or buzzing in ears, incontinence, numbness in hands or feet, limb spasms, weakened immune system.
It’s not good for you, period. Even recreationally. There’s several spun-out damaged kids in my area. Why even “have fun” with it?

The internet. You can buy anything on it. Guns kill more people than canisters of compressed nitrogen oxide. Q) Why do they still sell guns? A) Because the internet exists. Need a ghost gun?

Just because something is made illegal does not make it harder to possess for criminals. It just makes it harder for you to possess assuming you aren’t a criminal.

A gun is nothing but a tool made from metal and wood or plastics, a ghost gun is nothing but a tool made with out telling the authorities that it was made and them issuing a number stating that they gave the person the permission to create said tool. Any semi intelligent person could create out of a chunk of metal a functioning firearm within a day or two with nothing but simple hand tools. However giving a tool a scary name like ghost gun makes people with limited intelligence fearful of such things .

This is why people just purchase big tanks, it is cheaper, and has much less waste. But I mean it kills a fuck ton of brain cells still. >.>
Which is why I stopped long ago. Jahahaha

No it does not kill brain cells. When used as an anesthetic it is administered in higher concentrations and for longer durations than when used recreationally, and is safe.

Yep. There’s a big tank nitrous dealer in southern Humboldt. Every one knows about this person.

There is a surprisingly likelihood of death on the first use of Nitrous as has happened here in Mendo several times in the last few years.
Much higher chance for kids.

Too bad more kids & adults aren’t better informed that many substances just aren’t worth even 1 use.

That’s very interesting. These people must suffer from an underlying physiological condition. Please post a link if you have one.

You can just google for yourself!!!!!!
Sounds like you dabble and don’t want to face the facts about nitrous. It’s your body but at least inform yourself instead of being here doubting the facts.

Well, I sure do hope people have done some engaged searching for solid sources on N2O abuse…
Bcuz it seems quite a few people have some very limited sources of info that is NOT informative enough.

So, if you’ve had a tough time finding some real info, here are nunerous links to credible sources:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3537624/

https://bcmj.org/articles/case-report-neurological-complications-nitrous-oxide-abuse

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26912510/

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/may/21/nitrous-oxide-users-unaware-of-health-risks-nurses-warn

https://bcmj.org/articles/drug-induced-psychosis-and-neurological-effects-following-nitrous-oxide-misuse-case-report

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15742-inhalant-abuse

https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/94-100/default.html

https://oxfordtreatment.com/prescription-drug-abuse/nitrous-oxide/

N2O is a tool of chemistry and medicine. It’s not meant for the playground or party.

When people party with, otherwise known as abuse, N2O (nitrous oxide) there is NO mixing of O2 (oxygen) as an oral surgeon or anesthesiologist would do to keep you alive and lower the risk of damage and danger.

There was also a well done show on KZYX within the last 3wks on the once a week morning medical show hosted by former Mendo director of the Health dept, Dr. Marvin Trotter.
They had a guest on who has boots on the ground in our communities in NorCal.
They spoke about the deaths, particularly amongst teenagers, that have been directly attributed to N2O abuse….high schoolers! Dead.

From what I’m reading the dangers of nitrous oxide are;

1. Self-administering the substance while standing, as opposed to sitting.
2. Administration via a mask with a large supply of nitrous oxide by an unlicensed professional, especially self-administration.
3. Frostburns.

There is potential for overdose and even death if a person is foolish. This is the same for oxygen, drinking water, table salt, and just about anything that can be ingested or inhaled.

Please read some of the links above.

The info you’ve presented is exceptionally limited.

I directly question the veracity and credibilty of your source(s). (Nothing personal)

The potential for overdose or permanent damage comes with some proportion of the level of “ignorance” to the gravity of the substance being used or abused.

How can an untrained “user” of N2O be “foolish”???
Are you an advocate for N2O use?

I venture that no “average” person is knowledgable enough to safely administer N2O, especially when everyone present is fkd up on N2O.

If huffing gas is foolish then huffing N2O is equally or more foolish.

This is really a pretty simple thought process.

It is made from ammonium nitrate, pure chemical fertilizer that is derived from the proteins leftover from the refining of fuels and solvents from certain types of crude oil.

This is done by catalyzing ammonium nitrate with heat, which precipitates water from the leftovers, Nitrous Oxide.

So, yeah, people are sucking the offgases from heated chemical fertilizer.
NUTS I say. Fkn NUTBURGERS.

And to boot, they’re not using USP rated pharmaceutical grade N2O.

It has long been known that free ammonia is a neuro toxin. It stands to question that any derivative of it may, and likely will, have similar negative effects. Especially since there’s so much study literature based on real cases that shows it does.

Dentists are not allowed to apply N2O.
Oral Surgeons are, like Anesthesiologists.
No for nurses, doctors, medical surgeons, etc.

Application of these types of gases for human consumption is a HIGHLY skilled pursuit.
There are massive differences between the 2 classes in training and knowledge.

And still, from time to time someone still dies on the operating table or chair even though everyone involved was trained and sober.

Considering the breadth of data available about the real and common dangers of N2O abuse, I think that anyone partaking of N2O is at high risk of either winning a Darwin Award or at least should be a real contender for an Honorable Mention.
