Parade in Garberville on Saturday

On Saturday at 11 a.m., the Garberville Rodeo parade returns…Unfortunately, some of the events traditionally associated with the parade such as the rodeo and the pancake breakfast will be taking a hiatus this year.

But the town invites folks to gather the kids and come join the fun.

Thanks for posting this Kym.
As we slowly come out of our blue funk from the corona virus, we need some fun for our families and especially the kids. It sounds like there will be a lot of participation in this year’s parade. There will be some interesting floats, and there are quite a few floats signed up already.

The theme of the parade is “Let freedom Ring”. It seems very appropriate after living in a mask for over a year!

One of Southern Humboldt’s local cowboys, -Charlie Thorp- will be the Grand Marshall this year. What a great choice. Charlie, and his Partner “Digger” Odell Holly were big favorites in the calf roping events. As a side note, I worked in the woods with Charlie when he was a timber faller. He was also a local fisherman. He and his wonderful wife Jeannie Thorp have been almost lifelong partners, and a also a great team. Congratulations Charlie!

The weather is good and there will be lots of fresh air and sunshine. So, don’t forget the sunshades. There will be amplified announcing of the floats as the parade moves down redwood drive.

Also, a big thanks to Leann Greene from the Chamber of Commerce for putting this whole parade together. She is a parade novice, but she is getting a lot of help from the old guard. There will be no rodeo this year, so some of the rodeo folks are kicking in and helping out the parade folks.

There is plenty to do, so if you are inclined to do some fun parade work, please call and volunteer. 707-923-2613 or email: [email protected]. We need some young muscle to put speakers on stands and move barricades etc.

The Garberville Parade is one of the most fun things that you can do for free! So wrap up your babies and grab your ladies and everyone come!

Will Redwood Dr. be closed for the parade? I need to go to the library on Sat., the only time the Garberville library is open in daytime. Will I be able to get there, or will I be stuck as I was a few years ago on my way to a doctor’s appointment at J. Phelps clinic (when they still had Sat. appointments)? I’ve avoided Garberville on Rodeo Day since then.

Richard D Finch,

You could probably get there going through the cemetery from NAPA and then, left, at the Old Veterans Building AKA the Old Courthouse, if there was no other way…

Just a thought…
