[UPDATE 11:04 p.m.] Fire Burning East of Whiskeytown Now at Least 30 Acres and Growing
A fire began about 4 p.m. off Benson Dr. in the area of Old Shasta east of Whiskeytown in the Carr Fire burn scar. Cal Fire as of 7 p.m. reports the fire, known as the Rock Fire, is about 30 acres and 20% contained but scanner traffic indicates the fire may be about double that.
One of the AlertWildFire cams is pointed right at the flames here. Listen to the scanner covering the fire here.
Here’s a unofficial map of the Rock Fire, but it is roughly accurate.UPDATE 11:04 p.m.: Cal Fire says the fire is 70 acres and 30% contained as of 8:23 p.m.

Pls keep us updated Kim. My Dad lives in Redding. I know it sounds far but last time with the Carr fire it jumped and spread in all different directions close to my Mom’s and Dad’s house by Simpson College. My Dad was talking about the possibility of fires with this heat and wind in Redding. There is not much to burn down by Whiskeytown Lake but… And I do not have television or a radio station that will reach out of Shelter Cove except for the Fort Bragg which I am grateful for and you. Thank you.
I don’t understand how you make a rock fire don’t you wood of like papper brush of limbs something that burns rocks don’t burn 😂😂😂
It’s in the rock creek watershed if you know anything about that country you would understand
I sure hope they can put that fire out before it becomes another monster. We sure don’t want another Carr fire. Please be safe firefighters and anyone that lives close by.
Martin, right on!
Any info on how it started?
Lets not let this one go nuclear… Just put it out.. climate change means PUT OUT THE FIRES AND CUT LINE BEFOREHAND. LET LANDOWNERS USE A CHAINSAW!
It’s not climate change. That country is burn country. Always has been. Nothing new.
Wow, that ALERTWildfire link is cool! There’s a turkey vulture hanging out on Elk Creek 1.
