Paving Project on Hwy 96

public attentionPress release from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2):

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2), in conjunction with Tullis, Inc., began work this week on the Benjamin Creek & Cougar Gulch Overlay Project on State Route 96 in Siskiyou County. The $2 million project will provide a thin hot mix asphalt overlay at the following locations:
·      West of Happy Camp, from just east of Oak Flat Creek Bridge to just east of Benjamin Creek Road.
·      East of Horse Creek, from just west of Beaver Creek Bridge to approximately 1 mile west of Lumgrey Creek Bridge.
Shoulders will be backed to standard in the project areas and guardrail will be reconstructed or adjusted as necessary.
Construction activities began on June 7 with dig out operations at both locations. Motorists will encounter one-way traffic control with up to 15-minute delays, Monday through Friday during daytime hours.  Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas, follow speed limit reductions in place, and allot extra time for delays. The project is currently anticipated to be completed by the end of July.
Construction projects are subject to changes without prior notice. Caltrans and its contractors do our best to keep the public informed. To stay up to date on highway projects, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Project information can also be found on the District 2 webpage. The public can also call (530) 225-3426 during working hours or send an email to [email protected].
