One Dead After Two Unrelated Crashes in the Same Area off Hwy 299 Near Salyer

CHP Feature FatalityPress release from the CHP Trinity River Division:

At approximately 0450 this morning, Redding Communications Center received a call from an involved party reporting a collision just east of Salyer. Officers from the CHP Trinity River Area responded and discovered two vehicles over the embankment. Initially it was thought the vehicles had been involved in a collision with each other, but it appears to be two separate crashes.

The first involved a 2008 Subaru with two occupants from Willow Creek, CA. The Subaru was westbound, east of Salyer, at an unknown rate of speed and drifted off of the road. The roadway was wet, as it was raining at the time of the crash. The Subaru crashed into a large oak tree with the right front, which caused severe intrusion into the passenger compartment on the right and likely caused the fatal injuries to the right-front passenger. Additionally, the 68-year-old deceased passenger was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. The 62-year-old male driver sustained suspected major injuries and was transported to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka. The Cause of this collision remains under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were involved.

The other crash involved a 2001 Toyota Camry, which was located abandoned near the Subaru. The Camry had also been traveling westbound and drifted off of the road, east of the Subaru. The Camry collided with several small oak trees and came to rest near the Subaru. Both vehicles were examined for damage consistent with a crash between them, and it is not believed they collided. It is believed this crash occurred sometime after the Subaru came to rest because the male driver exited from the Toyota Camry, made contact with the driver of the Subaru, and then fled the scene. He remains outstanding.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed either crash is encouraged to contact Officer Compton at the CHP Trinity River Area Office at (530) 623-3832.

Let me let you in on a little info. Besides hiding their excrement and carcasses, and food waste, and hair, and children, Bigfoot tend to wait on lonely highways, sometimes 40 minutes at a time, for a vehicle to approach, before lurching out to scamper across the road right in front of the chariots of Costco.
This type of thing only happens when there’s earthquake weather

For certain….The Ghost of Tompsy Noble can be seen roaming the highway immediately after a summer rain at dawn trying to reach the Salyer Wayside Chapel by first light to marry the Abarr widow before the abirritation of Sheriff Tom Jackson can capture him to sober him up in the Weaverville Jail.

Someone died! What is wrong with you people? If you’re not capable of showing some compassion try not saying anything at all.

You leave these disrespectful comments up but you delete mine, the only one that showed compassion for the loved ones of the person who died in this accident? The next time someone you love dies tragically I’ll try to remember to comfort you by saying that Bigfoot and the ghost of big Bart Buffalo boots were the cause of that death.

Sleepy Alligator, I would agree, for a fatal accident these folks show no compassion or common sense. I would ask the same question, or wonder about their sanity. Wouldn’t want them for friends. Its such a dangerous section of road, and In storms I’ve seen a tree almost take out a highway patrol vehicle between Salyer and Willow Creek. And I’ve seen many other things. I at one time drove mail at night out there. Would pay to be extremely, especially during storms , and at night if your not familiar with the road. Slow down. That section just east of Salyer has some crazy road parts.

I saw the aftermath of the crash Saturday morning. It was an odd place. East in Salyer not East of Salyer. It was in he 45 mph zone just east of and across from the store. If they hadn’t hit the trees it looks like they would have gone into the house right there.

We’re all going there sooner or later. Is there any comment that would make it better? Platitudes don’t really help either. The most barbarous comments(optional reading) were aimed at the road and Bigfoot. I don’t see anything meant to inflict pain on survivors of the deceased. When I die, which is only guaranteed, go ahead and crack a few jokes. Life is already tough enough for the living, and too short not to have some fun. You’ll Know who it is cuz I’ll be doxxed

What they fail to mention is these cars crashed into a yard only a few feet from a mobile home. There was property damage to the fences, the “oak tree” and “trees” were a hedge. The property owner has requested a guardrail be installed on that corner due to a long history of fatal crashes at this location. In addition, a dog was in the yard that now has a limp after this occurred. It’s unfortunate that there was a loss of life, but someone needs to be held accountable whether it was the drivers for damages or county for ignoring the need for a guardrail.

So the first car didn’t hit the oak tree, it was a hedge they hit? Unfortunately, this was my neighbor that passed away, and no one seems to be getting the story straight. Not even the driver. My heart is broken that my friend is no longer with us. I find it odd that there hasn’t been an update about this nor have they released her name. Very odd..
