Humboldt County Planning Department is working hand in hand with CDFW to torment our community while stifling fiscal opportunity. How can the same regulators who have had a bone to pick for so many years, now be the gate keepers to legalization. CDFW from other regions are a pleasure to work with, but in our area they are rude, resentful and drunk on power. I assume the bust today is warranted and deserving, but legal operators who are risking everything should not be subject to the same biased retribution. Good luck Humboldt County, we are all gonna need it.

If you dont like the business then find a diffrent one. I have zero sympathy for growers they made mony hand over fist tax free for decades noy they are.legal bitch becasue they have to follow rules.

Me i would like ro see growers be able to grow it like corn in fields really drop that price. Until then quit whining you chose the lifestyle now live with it.

You display the kind of prejudice that pervades CDFW and other agencies, against ‘those damn growers who made so much money….!!’.
Regulations should be equally applied. Legalization is fraught with enough challenges and insecurities already. So take your biased shit-head mindset and get real!

You are right Meee. No taxes. And there has always been resentment from law enforcement because of the money and the lifestyle. That’s why, back in the early 80’s, they took so many grower’s money, left notes and laughed about it.

It is grown like corn in fields. Go down to the 805, or hell even Santa Cruz area. Guess what, prices still good.

If you aren’t yet aware of the SafeHomes Act, get yourself educated! They have the packet at the county offices. Maybe online? But it will make the cannabis Abatements look like child’s play. We need county planners who are helpful to residents, not weaponizeing code enforcement against older homes & buildings.

The “safe” home program aka the Humboldt “amnesty” program is a local program only, and is far from anything that resembles amnesty. I’m fact, once you sign on for the program, be prepared for thousands upon thousands of dollars of “requirement$” to make your home “safe”. Be very careful, because John Ford and The Planning Dept are not truthful or trustworthy.

The ‘Safe Homes’ act will target all Unpermitted buildings in the county. Ranchers barns, workers cabins, sheds, loggers equipment shops, all Homes owned by all the non growers. As you watch this abatement process and say it’s all good, screw the growers. Know that 12 code enforcement officers with a daily updated satellite system and the power to fine from their desk will be
Looking to their next job saving project. Everyone else, loggers, ranchers, summer homes, nurses, truck drivers, teachers, won’t matter. Do you have everything permitted, well let them help you with a big stick. Code Enforcement Wars 3.O, coming soon.

Nobody listened. It will serve all those who championed the satellite abatement right. Karma is a bitch, you were all warned, what was it ya’ll said to us growers? Oh yeah! Hope ya’ll have your permits! Change is hard.

I believe that the AOB (Alternative Owner Builder) program is still on the books and offered to rural homeowners as a way to make your homestead buildings ‘legal’. Last time I asked and looked, the Humboldt Planning Dept had info for the taking in the waiting room.
To my understanding you can ‘make legal’ one dwelling and all your out buildings with minimal (wood stove, sewage and some electrical) requirements.
I don’t trust them. And this program (only avail in Humboldt co, I believe) is not something we should let go of!

Safe Homes Program…Only Humboldt would usurp the name from a program that protects victims and children from domestic abuse and use that program to abuse and fine their own citizens. This is not a test….the spy satellite will be used to gentrify this county and soften it up for the many many urban refugees about to flood our gates. They need someplace to live that is safe…and has water…and it might be your house. Think of yourself as a Palestinian except you’ve been chosen to play that part because you have a non-code house or maybe you grew unlicensed, untaxed, unregulated so-called “legal” weed….We had a good time here. We had to work hard and fight back to earn our place. Now they want it back. What are YOU going to do about it?!….https://humboldtgov.org/DocumentCenter/View/64396/Safe-Homes-Combined-Packet

Thanks Farce, must read. Gotta love one of many conditions. ALL WALLS and Ceiling coverings must be removed for electrical and plumbing inspections, I think good future business will be sheet rocking, considering every house will need to be torn down to studs. Sounds fun everyone, right. I was mistaken, this only applies to residential and outbuildings, not commercial. We had a name for these house in the hills, ‘Plywood Palaces’. Quite common for many years, not really nice but common.

After Dec 31, 2022 the “amnesty” portion of the safe homes program is OVER and full wrath of John Ford will come striking down with grate vengeance, including fines, penalties, abatement related legal costs and upto date building code requirements. Good luck retroactively permitting anything in the hills after that. We all need to wake up and demand sanctuary before its too late.

Let’s not forget you will have to upgrade the road and culverts to your house also, even though the county won’t be upgrading their roads to the same standard they require of you!
Also, why hasn’t John Ford had ADA accessible ramps installed yet at his own department and why doesn’t he have secondary containment around the giant generator sitting outside of the planning department?? He makes and enforces the rules, but he doesn’t follow them! Time to look in the mirror John, Jesus is watching you!!

I hate this as much as anybody else on here, but on a lighter note this counties permitting dept mite be a little behind on inspections and other stuff but trust ( not all) but most counties are the same way, and Humboldts permitting dept has been real easy to work with from my experiences. It’s money we don’t want to spend and people nobody really likes dealing with, but I’ve bought and flipped houses all over the country and delt with Permiting depts and the egos and them just drawing up money for nothing. But so far Humboldts permit dept has been very easy to deal with and most of them have been helpful and even went above and beyond to make sure I’m able to do what I want to. It’s not something we are use to up here ( being told what we can and can’t do on properties we’ve all had blood sweat and tears on) but it’s a change we won’t be able to get away from, there’s a much bigger agenda going here then we can fully understand it mite take another generation to get them there but we can’t stop it, best to play along it will get easier, making a stand here won’t stop it from happening. I’ve fought the law here Humboldt and even a federal case for growing I’m no green horn. Coming out of the trench’s has been a tuff decision for me I’m not growing for the second year in a row waiting on Permiting. But I feel good about it and when the choppers hover over my place (like they did Thursday morning) I can drink my coffee relax and not shit my pants. I feel I will come out ahead doing this, fighting cases even if you win is a waste of time and money you can’t get back, the way I see it they have their agenda and I have mine.

Thank you for putting things back into perspective Unknown S. Humboldt is a very unique place to regualte indeed, whether it be licensing legacy canna or bring all the unpermitted houses into compliance. What I think needs to be considered is that now canna is “legal” the government is trying to rush progress toward total zoning and code compliance in all forms even though it will be impossible to achieve this goal. Non compliance of Planning and Zoning Laws that were perpetrated over the last three decade were a direct result of the War on Drugs and the lack of trust our community had for govt oversight. And this lack of trust has been passed down from generation to generation. With out a clear path to True Amnesty that involves third party (non govt)”safe home” inspectors to deem properties Safe without the need for costly repairs, permits or the admission of guilt, this program will never work. What we need to do is to grant Sanctuary to those who battled and endured the War on Drug, as they are the true Heros by sacrificing their lives for this magical plant only to be mostly shut out of the commercial market.
