On May 25, 2021, deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) served five search warrants to investigate illegal cannabis cultivation in Southern Humboldt County. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services Environmental Health – HazMat Unit, Humboldt County Code Enforcement, CAL FIRE and the California State Water Resources Control Board assisted in the service of the warrants.
Five parcels were investigated during the service of the warrants. The parcels did not possess the required county permit and state license to cultivate cannabis commercially.

Assisting agencies found the following violations:
- Six water diversion violations (up to $8,000 fine per day, per violation)
- Sixteen depositing trash in or near a waterway violations (up to $20,000 fine per day, per violation)
Additional violations with civil fines are expected to be filed by the assisting agencies.
No arrests were made during the service of the warrant. The case will be forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office for review.

What really burns me up about these grows are not only the disrespect for our environment but the diversion of water from sources that other families need for their ability to continue to live in their homes during the dry summer months that are predicted once again this year. People who have worked very hard their entire lifetimes to provide shelter and a nice home for themselves and their families only to have the ability to remain there stripped from them due to the greed of others. This is the kind of greed that can never be satiated, no matter what the consequences to anyone living nearby or downriver. It is sickening and disgusting.
Whether it’s a government entity or a corporation or a group of people, resources will be consumed for the bottom line.
That proposed Aqua farm is going to use a lot of water.
Salt water is fairly abundant.
Will the fish farm use ocean water?
They will need to use a ton of freshwater according to their plans, I believe 100’s of thousands of gallons a day.
Well, that is water that is about to hit the ocean, and become salt water, for what it’s worth. There is a lot of extra water capacity that is being unused since the pulp mill shut down.
It’s a lot different from taking cold headwaters diversion from the feeder creeks into starved watersheds like the eel and Trinity/Klamath.
I believe it comes from Ruth Reservoir.
Seems like a waste.
Maybe throw some fish in the lake.
I believe it comes from the pump stations on the Mad between Arcata and Blue Lake.
get your believers fixed 🙂
Once again no parcel numbers from search warrant. They printed names of abatement properties a couple years ago. This is as egregious as it gets. Who are they protecting?
Where in Sohum was this at?
