The Los Angeles Times has singled out some local spots in their “40 road trips for the comeback summer of 2021.”

In the article, the ‘Times claims Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree in the Leggett area is the “handsomest” of the three drive-through redwoods, that Avenue of the Giants in SoHum has amazing tall trees, that Redwood National and State Parks in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties have countless “specimens,” that Glass Beach near Fort Bragg is a good spot to find shiny ocean-grinded junk (not as much anymore, am I right?), Trees of Mystery north of Klamath has cool suspension bridges, and that Burney Falls in Shasta County, while a bit of a trek for us, has some stellar waterfall eye-candy.

Episode description:

A high school brawl got really ugly, a deserted mill north of Manila is eyeballed as a mega-grow, a possible Victorian-esque treatment for Eureka, an alleged triple-murderer pleads not guilty, good times at the airport, notorious ex Trinidad resident Robert Durst starts his LA murder trial, live comedy, Guy Fieri goes metal, Sara Bareilles earns acting praise, the LA Times encourages Humboldt travel, an HSU alum’s animal-saving TV show, an upcoming UFC fight for Orion Cosce, local offshore wind energy gets a thumbs up from the governor, COVID updates, and more.

Since drive thru trees are such a hit, maybe put a couple in at Richardson grove. Be cool to have a scenic lane that goes thru a few trees. Maybe even have one with a drive up dispensary inside, the grove puff-in-go. Nothing like an old growth high.

I love a nice Juniper, a California nutmeg, a pacific Yew, to name a few..
Even the lowly Chamise I adore, and the other chaparral plants galore..

The road south should be reverted to old 101 and that will keep people away.

Humboldt still being Covid cootie land while the rest of the state recovers could put a damper on tourism.

Stay at home, save lives!
Tourism is terrorism!
All those who brow beat their neighbors into wearing Democrat masks must now continue to stand against outside visitors bringing disease to our area!
Wear your mask like racists wear the flag!
Tourists and artists are the vanguard of gentrification!
The only good tourism is no tourism!
Lol, so much for Covid🥱

Maybe you’d like living in Brazil or India? Could you find those places on a map? Unlikely.

Please let the visitors know that many of the rivers and other water attractions will be hazardous due to algae blooms. If I recall correctly the algae may be fatal to dogs.
